STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND

On my way home from town yesterday, it was around 5 p.m. or so.  The car window was rolled halfway down.

The sunlight  was changing it's hue.  I could see and feel it on my skin.  Nice.  The evening smells were beginning to filter out the day smells.  Mmmmm..  The sounds were shifting to twilight sounds.  The breeze coming into the window was whispering "now we bring the night".  I sat up straight, feeling like a stranger in a strange land.  Almost overwhelmed by all my senses being alive at the same time.  A New World.  Yet is has always been here.  I wasn't always here.  I was busy smoking away the town trip, smoking my way home so I could relax and smoke some more when I got home.  But this, what i have now, is something I remember from a long, long time ago.  From childhood.  I remember now.  I have been gone a long time.

Welcome home me.

Welcome home you, indeed.  I can smell the smells you perceived.  Yes, our noses are much more keen when we aren't inhaling smoke throughout the day.  But I've never percieved the changing of the guard from day to night.  Interesting.  The breeze "whispering - now we bring the night"  fabulous sensory image.  I'm so glad you're home.  And what a neat homestead it is!

Wow! I also know exactly what you mean. My senses were dulled for years. Quitting smoking has opened up a whole new world, or should I say, brought back a world from my past. I'm still trying to aclimate to my new found surroundings. The realness of life is coming back and I love it!

Qwl... I love your post.  Somehow... I could see you smiling in my minds eye. ♥

It does feel good to see the wonderment of nature again... when I sit outside on the deck.  before.. it was just getting my smokes in.  Now... I take the time to watch my humming birds...... and look at the breeze moving the trees...ever so softly..... and the lizards.... sitting on the deck... the big red bubble puffing out on their throats as they call to their mates.  It is a beautiful thing.  I agree.  Again..... gratitude comes to mind.  and I am....... SO grateful.

Thanks for the lift.  I took that car ride with you.  How great it is that neither one of us was smoking!

thank you for showing me what I needed to see. Just maybe I get it right this time. I have been smoking for almost 20 years and been trying to quit every since I started smoking. They were free where I worked newly divorced and had left church thats when the marborow man got me. forgot how to spell it. lol. I was raised with a house full of smokers I thought they were burning money. Then at 36 I was addicted too. Pray for me and I will pray for you. I really want to quit burning money. Thanks again for the story hope to go there soon.
