Rough Day

SMILINACCOUNTNT

Today has probably been the worst day since the first few. It was going along fine, and then it was announced at work that they did another round of layoffs (stupid covid). I am so grateful to have my job still, but a close co-worker was let go. This is the most emotional challenging thing I've faced in my quit, and it almost did me in. That demon reared its head and whispered "no one would blame you for having one", and damn I was having a serious war with myself. I was going to jump on here and shout for HELP, but then a coworker called and took up a ridiculous amount of my time for something I knew nothing about, and by the time that was done the worst of the urge was gone, and I was ok. So while I was annoyed for having my time wasted, it probably was the best thing to happen right then. Blessings in disguise. I'm pretty drained from today, and think an early night is in order.

SOOO happy to read one of your first thoughts was to pop on here and ask for help.

Happier still that you have proved to yourself that a thought does not have to be a call to action.  You have learned the important lesson that what is required in those moments is to change your mind's direction and NOT argue with yourself about it.  Next time, just envision that conversation with the coworker, count backwards from 10,000, or take a quick walk, or march in place somewhere you aren't visible to others, or find a YouTube video of an old comedy show or new comic.....

You know now that the crave didn't have to be acted upon and how best to deal with it.

Sorry about the layoffs and your coworker- might be time to cut back on spending to start a nest egg in case. Not spending money on smokes is a GREAT start!

The quit WILL get easier, it takes time and bad days happen.  They happened when we smoked too.  You CAN do this and coming here was a stellar move.  I am afraid that this pandemic is challenging a LOT of people.  Just keep in mind how well you are doing.

It's those stress triggers that can pop up unexpectedly and really whack us in the head, especially in the first couple of months. Time is our friend as you found out and anything that helps us delay, delay, and delay...will help us get past the crave and save our quit.

Stay strong and great job knowing help was here if you needed it.

If you haven't yet, stick your nose in the Relapse Prevention‌ group.  Some good material in there to help keep us in safe waters.  The war ends when we remove the possibility of smoking from our minds.  When there's no option to smoke, there's nothing to fight against.  No, no one would blame you, except that Best of you.  Hold true to that.  It wants what's best FOR you.  Hope tomorrow's better.  Hey, you made it through another day, right?  That's gotta make it better to begin with.

Work continues to be challenging for many with this virus.  Sorry to hear about you co-worker.  Happy to hear you met the challenge head on and didn't smoke.  These are the confidence builders that lead to success.

Keep moving forward.

Great job.  Quitting smoking is work. I can tell you that it so worth it.  It is life changing in more ways than I can count.  I smoked for 52 years and quit 7 years ago with the huge help from this site.  I LOVE not smoking.  Enjoy your day.
