Relapsed but quit again!

I relapsed big time last year!  I just quit again yesterday.  It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.  I had a few times where I was just wanting a smoke but I got up and walked around.  Changing routines that is a little harder.  I am using NRT.  The only real problem is that I don't have anyone that believes in me because this is my 8th or 9th time.  It is frustrating.  I just want to be free and have support.  Even if it takes a thousand times I will quit.

Wow, how I relate to that " I don't have anyone who believes in me". Exactly what happened to me because I failed so many times.

Well now I am headed into my 5th year quit and that means you can too. I finally quit for me and I quit announcing my quit plans to the world and just got busy taking care of me. Just seemed to work better for me. I think I set myself up for failure telling everyone I was quitting but I know for others...it is exactly what they had to do.

I also re-read Allen Carrs book, the easy way to quit smoking and I made a quit journal. I kept track of what was 'tempting ' me to smoke and worked on things to do when the temptations arrived. Sometimes it was just jumping on a mini tramp for a few minutes...or taking in some slow deep breaths, or coming here and reading others blogs to get encouraged. I even sub divided ups things to do in different circumstances because my mini tramp was not always where I was if you follow.  Different actions to different circumstances I was in to smash a crave. It worked well for me.

You can or you can't do this and it's up to you. It comes down to choice. You have to make it and then follow through and depending on your choice....thats the thing you will flow through with.

Meanwhile, I'm here for you. Stay near this site and reach out often. Talk as much as you need to.

PS   Congrats on one day WON !

Use positive self talk to keep you quit. "I don't do that anymore"

Don't put yourself in risky situations without an escape plan.

We are here to support you.  Stay close.  Never give up Never give in.

Believe in yourself in due time others will believe in you.

Don't look forward to 1000 times, say "this is it my forever quit."

You can do this one day at a time.

Welcome to EX, Staying quit is doable but it takes a lot of work.  Learn from your previous mistakes and prepare that it will not happen again.  You have come to the right place for support in quitting smoking..

Start, by educating yourself about nicotine addiction because education is the key to a successful quit.

Go to my  My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX  to view the videos and learn about your triggers and tracking your smokes.  If you have already qui...  to learn how to navigate around the site.  Plus Understand the law of addiction."

Law of Addiction

Administration of a drug to an addict will cause re-establishment of chemical dependence upon the addictive substance."  That it is very importaht to commii9t to Nope.

Read: Freedom from Nicotine My Journey Home and Nicotine Addiction 101   Here are the links      http://whyquit.com/whyquit/LinksAAddiction.html   and http://whyquit.com/ffn/

Also Read   Allen Carr’s book, “Easy Easier Way to Quit Smoking”.  Which can be purchased of found pdf format on the internet.

I wrote a blog a bit ago that contains good information and links you might find helpful:  https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/thread/17060-for-our-new-years-quitters-and-community-members-too   You might pay special attention to ideas on how to change up your routines to lessen the associations and triggers.  I also highly recommend reading the book by Allen Carr that dispels the myths about what smoking does for you (hint - not ONE thing we believed!).

Glad you are back at it.  WE can be your support group; it's what we DO!  A lot of folks here were serial quitters, so we understand, and a LOT of them now have accomplished their final quit.  You can, too.  Stay close!

I lost track of my failed quits.  This site was the biggest difference...the support and love I got from here made all of the difference.  I learned all kinds of things to get through craves and I KNEW that no crave would ever kill me...no one could say that about smoking.  I pay attention to my feelings now...it was something I did NOT do when I was smoking and I stuffed them thinking I didn't have to feel them then.

You can do this, I am so proud of you for coming back and starting over.  If you can figure out what led to your relapse, you might be able to prepare for the possibility of something like that happening again.

We are here, we all want to help you.

Welcome back,

Ellen

i love that  'quit like a boss'  in other words you are boss of your own quit, because if you are not, your addict will be.

Welcome to EX it is a very supportive group. So no worries of thinking you have to do it alone.  We believe in you, now you believe in you and let's get this quitting thing done.  Best decision I ever made is to quit smoking.  Stay strong and stay close. We are here if you need us.

Now you have support. New quitters, former smokers--the Ex community is here 365. The dependency is hard enough to get over without worrying whether your friends and family believe in you. Give them time, give yourself time and let Ex be a part of your support. One day at a time, yes you can.

fentresssa  I had gotten to the point where even I didn't know if I could do it...it's a journey and you have been on it so you have at least some idea of what to expect.  One day at a time, one step at a time.  BELIEVE because you CAN do it!  Know that we are here and that many of us have been through more than one quit...not ALL, but many of us.  I was what they call a "serial" quitter...the difference between my failed quits and this one, which is just over five years old...has been EX and all that I have learned here and gotten from the people on this site.  I had tracked my cigarettes and kept a record of my triggers and which ones were the strongest and then I planned for what to do INSTEAD of smoking.  Did that make it easy?  No, but it DID make me more aware, it made me recognize that there were times when I was smoking for absolutely no reason, no trigger, no anything.  I think that helped when I finally did quit. My quit was pretty much taken out of my hands unless I wanted to actively and openly commit suicide in front of my family.

You can do this, we all want to help you in any way that we can.

I quit for my cat chaos 7 years ago, ive tried before but not really I just read how me smoking wasn't helping my cats eyes heal and I love chaos more then my stupid addictions...I bought 3 months of Nicorette gum and on the third month was used to ween myself off the gum.  it was the easiest decision ive ever made...

but when you relapse try try again and you don't know how strong you are until you've tried!  good luck!

I've quit several times myself and yes, each one is a bit easier than the last, but the problem is that made me complacent. It made me think that I could have just one here and there because, yeah, I could quit again. I got myself into a vicious cycle. I'm 38 days free from my former drug of choice and very, very careful to treat my baby quit as the most important thing in my life.

Bravo to you for giving them up again!

How are you doing with your quit?

You can and will be successful one precious Smokefree Day at a time or hour minute or even a second at a time as long as you keep moving forward and stacking up your precious Days of Freedom so each evening you can say YAY for another Day WON, I know how you feel fentresssa about no one believing you because of several failed attempts at quitting smoking I had at least a half dozen failed attempts so when I finally quit this time I had one person actually laughing at me in my first week saying you'll be smoking again by next week at this time that hurt but I was determined this was going to be my final quit and I'll be celebrating 5 years of Smokefree living on the 14th of July, you will succeed believe it.....

Not usually a positive sign when someone stops posting and doesn't answer messages.  I really hope that isn't the case here and that you have just been busy and not able to connect here.  My connection here was what helped my quit to grow.  I stick around because of all the others who stuck around to help me.

Let us know how you are doing and remember that this is a journey.  If I had to count all of the times I did not succeed at quitting, well, let's say, I am not sure I can count that high.
