Panic and cravings on the obvious triggers - I must be normal.

Yesterday afternoon I was checking on my website and realized that 17 pages of my content weren't showing up and were giving a "error 404" message."

That's 17 pages and dozens upon dozens of individual posts of my writing from August of 2009 to July of 2011, just totally not where they belonged. I started to panic as I urgently searched Google and was getting no real hint at a solution to my problem. I was beginning to believe that I was going to have a lot of work on my hands.

BUT I DIDN'T SMOKE.

Then my buddy who builds websites told me he had encountered a similar problem and the fix he had used worked for me and I was filled with joy.

Until I got a phone call from the building manager at my apartments telling me that there was another (yes, another) leak in the apartment below me and he would need to enter my place and turn off the water.

Last time there was a leak in the apartment below me, he and I were both obviously having bad days and it ended with a rather lengthy complaint of his behavior to my property manager and then a 10 day comply or vacate notice for the cats I had told him I now had in my apartment. Let's just say he's not the easiest dude to get along with and I was not looking forward to dealing with all that again. I quickly drove home.

BUT I DIDN'T SMOKE.

I met him in the elevator as he was heading for my apartment, he got in and out quickly and promised he would have my water back in about an hour so I returned to work. When I came home again he had taken care of the water AND fulfilled a current work order for my place.

I almost feel like the planet is rewarding me for butting up against these potential stressors and not actually picking up a butt.

I'll take it.

Since Monday, February 04, 2013:
31 days smoke free,
436 cigarettes down,
184.43$ and 1 day, 19:36:00 saved!

great job protecting your quit!!!  Every time you DON'T light up, you get a bit stronger! Most of us have craved during the kind of stress you've been facing, but I wouldn't go so far as to accuse you of being "normal"  you are nowhere near that boring. 😃

Great job, Alyson!  And congratulations on 31 days!  (But what I want to know is this: after the last run-in with the building manager, did you get to keep your cats after all???)

Good job!  Every time you face this type of situation and DON'T smoke, you are strengthening your armor and proving to yourself again and again that cigarettes adding nothing to your life!

and yeah, I'm with Sky, what happened with the cats?

Congrats On staying quit!!!  The other day my car broke down and I really wanted one but I held off as well.  It makes you feel really good knowing that your stressors come by and you can hold off.  Congrats!!

The cat thing is actually a much longer story! When he had needed to come in and out for the last leak they dislike him so much they both actually crawled behind the washer/dryer and I couldn't find them for about 20 minutes (I had been living there for almost 2 years and they had never pulled that stunt before.) I thought he had done something with them until I finally needed to use the restroom and heard a plaintive little meow coming from behind the washroom door.

Either way, I had told him about the cats before he entered my apartment and instead of just saying to my face that he needed me to pay the pet deposit he gave me the 10 day notice on my door. I immediately paid the deposit and my cats are still with me. I would never ever ever give them up for anything!

Thanks for all the love, ladies! I've had quite a few cravings lately but I feel like I'm doing it right this time.

I was feeling guilty for not having any cravings and thinking I was really lucky, but it turns out they just waited patiently until I entered NML! 😉

I am the fourth "owner" of the fluffy one on the top and his original owner actually made a web page for him and his brother (his bro still lives with my Madre.) http://www.shenalee.com/catsneedlove/ talk about spoiled!

This is the story about how I ended up with him: http://www.alysonoholic.com/wilson-and-bread/ I feel like after all that he deserves to be treated well. And Gizmo is my little Diva who has been with me since she was less than six weeks old, so yeah, maybe they're a little spoiled. ;)\

Thanks, Nancy - you were so right to tell me not to get complacent!

About the Author
This is actually my third wind on becomeanex.org - in February 2013 I quit for over 6 months before relapsing and realizing I was going to have to start all over again. And then that happened again. So, I'm back here to get at it. I've tried quitting so many times now it's not even that funny. I had basically been smoking since I was 13 (so, 25 years now) and was tired of letting something so stupid and expensive run my life to the extent that it did. In general, I am a pretty healthy person. I work out regularly, I eat well most of the time..it just seemed ridiculous to keep subjecting myself to being stinky and ultimately sick. I know cigarettes don't actually bring anything positive to my life, it was just hard to think of a future that didn't include the habits I had built around them. But now that I am 38 I am determined to live a healthy, well-balanced life and take more time to enjoy my home, my friends, my 2 cats, my city and a life free of cigarettes.
