Only 7 days, but feel good about it

Been 7 days since I put down the butts.  Staying positive about what I want, hate the smokes, and want to be healthy and save money.  The nicotine addiction is not too bad, but the physical habit is the hardest to break and finding something else to take its place.  A glass of water works good and food.  Food, not a good replacement, but things will get better.  My husband still smokes and the smoke irritates my nose and causes me to start sneezing.  Trying to talk him in to quitting, but says he has too much going on and smoking relies stress.  Told him it's not true, he just thinks it does.  Oh, well, will keep on trucking on.  Good site, thanks for all the good info on how to get started.

Hi Martha,

You say only 7 days, but Wow!, 7 days is amazing.

Maybe your husband might be willing to smoke outdoors to help you out. You are leading by example, so give him time. You may want to give your husband a copy of Allen Carr's book to read.

Congrats on making the decision to take your life back. 🙂

Hello and CONGRATS on 7 days!!!!!

The most important thing you can do is educate yourself about the addiction so you know what is going on in your mind and body...remember your entire metabolism and brain chemistry will be adjusting to and withdrawing from a poisonous chemical…it takes a minute…think of your physical, emotional, mental distress as ‘cleansing’and a rite of passage to your new life and authentic self…relax and accept it… A new mindset about a smokefree life is imperative...

Here is a link to a free pdf of Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking."  This is an easy, entertaining book that contains a wealth of good information on what nicotine does to your body and mind.  I HIGHLY recommend you read it:

I don't think there are very many smokers who can be convinced by others to quit. He absolutely should smoke outside, though.   You might find that the shining example of your freedom may show him that it IS possible, and not nearly as awful as we all were led to believe.  I would just continue to tell him how much better you feel, smell, taste, breathe.................I would also be sure you buy yourself something special with the money you have saved!

Congratulations on your decision to quit and your 7 days.  There is no such thing as "only" when we talk about quitting smoking.  Each and every day is a victory!

Read lots and you can share the info with your hubby! You can't make anyone quit but you certainly can ask that he not smoke around you! Congrats on a week!
