One Month Whipped!

One month of not inhaling poison. One month of whitening my teeth (which are now as pearly as they have ever been). One month on my killer post-smoking detox diet-o-rama, and nearly ten pounds lost. For some reason the nasty hair on my chin (I call him Moriarty after Sherlock Holmes' nemesis who famously vexed Sherlock at every turn before finally landing at the bottom of a deep ravine) has miraculously disappeared. My friend the doctor suggests that maybe something to do with my hormones is righting itself after the effects of the nicotine have worn off and some of the toxins have been flushed out via the detox.
And Oh Yeah, I can actually taste the delicious green sludge I drink for breakfast every morning, as well as the yellowish brown gunk I have for lunch and the purplish glop I have for dinner. And that is the best &*%$#@! sludge/gunk/glop I've ever had. It's practically a feast. Can't wait to see what real food tastes like now that my taste buds are not being killed off 18 times a day!
504 Cigarettes not smoked! As Devo would say, (just before, as in their video they crack the whip and knock the cigarette out of a band member's mouth leaving nothing but a smoldering butt) when a problem comes around, you must whip it. Crack that whip! Give the past a slip!

Get Straight!
Go Forward!
Move ahead!
Whip it! Whip it good!

I decided to quit on the first day of Lent and do something akin to a traditional Lenten fast. I checked out detox diet programs, but there isn't anything aimed especially at smokers (though I am thinking of writing one as this has been so effective). I googled detox, particularly with emphasis on getting rid of the arsenic and other heavy metals smoking gets into your system, as well as how to get rid of all the free radicals the yucky chemicals have loosed upon my system. The diet basically has a lot of probiotic yogurt (which is actually really yummy), fruits, especially berries which I generally take in the form of a shake or smoothie type deal, and this vegetable soup I invented (each one has lots of tomatoes, cilantro, broccoli and other things that are supposed to either get rid of metals or fight off free radicals). I've also made out a schedule for beverages like soy milk (which is also recommended in small doses for anti-cancer detox) and diet cran-pomegranate juice. It all not only detoxes me, but keeps me from getting hungry and screwing up my blood sugar which can give you cigarette cravings. Also the web articles I found all recommended some kind of exercise that works up a sweat for at least 15 minutes to sweat out toxins. I've been doing a 15 minute jog every morning, and an additional 1/2 hour 3-4 days a week. I find I've been in a marvelously cheerful mood (even my boss noticed it) and the whole thing comes to somewhere between 1400 and 1600 calories a day, meaning that despite the water weight gain I have actually lost fat. Yay.

Well, I've actually had a little practice with dieting since I've been doing it for about a year now (lost 80 pounds this past year). The detox is actually not as difficult as some of the other dieting methods I've tried since it offers a lot more variety - even if it is all vegetables - I am hoping to put together something over the weekend. Maybe I could write it up and pass it on. A friend of mine who is studying to be a nutritionist tested it on her class's website and they said it was pretty bullet proof nutritionally, and I know from experience it's worked. And I feel great. Even if it would be too hard to do over a long term, I can just about hack it for six weeks, which is actually longer than most detox diets. And effective not just in the weight loss sense. I can tell the toxins really are moving and shaking since my hormones (in the form of Moriarty) are clearly being re-regulated. Also, I feel like a million bucks - no quit smoking anxiety, no depression, no nix. It's been really good.
