No Thanks - Just Put One Out!

As we all know smoking is NOT a habit but an addiction and it is not just a physical additction but also a psychological one too - and just as there are physical "tricks" to cope with the cravings - glass of water, change of activity, go for a walk, mint, take a deep breath etc there are tricks we can teach our brain so as to cope with a craving - I heard a great one recently from a woman who said everytime she felt like a cigarette she said out loud to herself - 'no thanks just put one out' and by pretending that she had indeed just smoked a cig when she felt like one she began to convince herself she had and so she coped with the many cravings that hit her in the early stages of quitting well! May not work for everyone but anything that helps is worth considering

That's an interesting trick. It kind of takes the only moment of not wanting a cigarette that a smoker ever feels (because they just had one) and turns it into a tool to feel content without smoking at that moment. Is it Edith who says to "procrastinate" when the urge to smoke hits, just put it off for a few mintues? Your suggestion is along those same lines, except that it's "positive" in the sense of being satiffied as a reason to not smoke.

david, being my third wk., sometimes eat fruit or almonds, they help+ are healthy 4 u+ you will have nothing
2 feel guilty about. we have 2 be careful not to trade 1 addiction 4 another! i completly understand + also
know exactly what u r talking about cig. being the worst addiction in the world!! so many people don't know or
understand how psycologically addictive, the mind doesn't want 2 let go of the addication, not to mention
nicotene + the role it plays, phycially, psycologically,+ every way possible! have a great day!
blessings,

Hey, David, I've not seen you around much lately, but I'm glad you popped in! 😃 I like that trick, I wish I'd've heard it early in my quit. I don't know if it would have worked, but it would have been fun to try.
