No Man's Land Roll Call!

This is a weekly event to offer encouragement and camaraderie to those in NML, basically months 2-3-4 of a quit. Regardless of how long you’ve been quit, anyone who likes the conversation and wants to offer support is welcome to participate!

*********************************************

This week's topic:

In just a few days we will begin a holiday week that spans the globe and is a source of both joy and stress for most of us. All quitters, but especially those in NML, need to be vigilant about protecting our quits at time like this.

Revel in your joys this week, whether they come from faith, family, or friends.

Appreciate the beauty around you, whether it’s festive lights on a palm tree or a blanket of snow on the ground.

And if stress comes, just remember that smoking is not an acceptable way to deal with stress. Put your tools to use; re-read the materials if you need some re-motivation (Allen Carr, whyquit.com, quitsmokingonline.com, etc). Find a buddy here that you can exchange cell phone numbers with, in case you’re traveling and it’s not easy to get to a computer.

Your first smoke-free Christmas will become your first smoke-free New Year’s Eve, and you’ll be starting 2012 as a healthier, happier person!  Keep that big picture in mind and be PROUD of your new smoke-free self!

*********************************************

If you’re in NML, give a shout!  Tell us how long you’ve been quit, and what you’re most looking forward to about the upcoming holidays! Reach out and find each other, this is a great place for support!

Hi Sarah, thanks for making the NML blog.  The time has gone by scary fast and here are the holidays just around the corner.  Great advice to re read some of the materials.  I read just a few paragraghs from the Allen Carr book the past couple of nights before sleep and found it very useful in solidifying my commitment to remain smoke free no matter what.  Very best wishes to all for the holiday season.  Regards, Lisa (123 Days)

Sarah, thanks for the great blog. I am out of NML now (Yay!) but my son is in his second month quit. It is an exciting time for him. The cravings are pretty much gone and everything is new and exciting. He is rediscovering how wonderful it is to smell good. He is loving being free from teh necessity of having feeding himself nicotine. I wish he were a member here, but he has me for support and I point out some of the educational materials for him. He also has his GF who quit with him and is also doing beautifully.

I really believe he and his girlfriend both are firmly committed which thrills me to pieces.

Enjoy the holidays!

Someone said I am out of NML because of how many days quit I am. What does 130 have to do with it? I am looking forward to a smoke free Christmas. First one in as long as i can remember. I wish everyone a blessed Holiday.

I still feel a little uneasy, but keep close to this site and it helps me on a daily basis.  Just another 2 weeks and I will be out of NML.  Thanks for the reminder.

@Kathryn, No Man's Land generally lasts through day 130 of a quit, give or take. Everyone is a little different; this is an emotional hurdle to get through and not everyone will do it on exactly the same day. So don't worry about the number so much... we do this blog every Wednesday afternoon to try and keep NML'ers motivated and together, so participate for as long as you feel its benefits. I'm closing in on 300 days, and this blog every week still helps me stay motivated.

When I first heard of "No Man's Land" and that I was in it.........it sounded like a very scary place to be.  You helped me to understand exactly the period of time quit that I am in right now, and I am totally comfortable with that.  It also helps me to understand that every single time I relapsed before ....guess what?  YUP! No Man's Land but I had never heard of it.

So again, Knowledge becomes Power.  I am ready for NML this time around. Thank you, Sarah, for doing these weekly blogs.

61 days and happy and thrilled to be smoke free!!
