Hey all!

Just joined the program today! I consider myself to be a social smoker. I just graduated college and picked up the bad habit while being around peers/friends who use tobacco products at parties and bars. I tend to only smoke cigarettes when at the bar or around these friends who smoke. It is hard to get away from these friends considering I have known them since freshman year in college. Hope this journey goes as planned! I wish to be smoke free by the beginning of July. let me know about your successes or even past attempts at quitting, I would love to hear about them! 🙂

Well if you want to be free by July 1st. you had better get started.

You need to make a decision and when you want to smoke, you don't.

I know, it sounds simple.

It is.

Laugh when you would smoke. It will remind you you aren't smoking any more.

more posters soon

when you are on the site, click on members above. Read the profiles of the ppl. that are currently logged on. There you will find folks with quits from one day to many years. Look to the right, and read their blogs. Read this blog, and search Maggie....she has links to sites and other educational material that you can start on now. Prepare by educationing yourself, and like Dale above says.....make a decision that you don't want to smoke, and don't. Think....N.O.P.E means Not One Puff Ever   with WIT Whatever It Takes. Exercise, walk, drink lots of ice water. Cravings will pass. Don't go out with those friends, and don't go to the bar for awhile. If you really WANT to quit, you will.

Welcome to the site! Congrats on deciding to quit! To prepare I did a lot of reading - blogs here, the free course at:   http://quitsmokingonline.com/ and Allen Carr's book - "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" - free download -   http://joga.365.lt/Allen-Carr_Easy-Way-To-Stop-Smoking_Download-free-PDF-EBook

The reading really helps! Plus - stick around here for support!

You have come to the right site, I am so grateful I did.  As the others have mentioned read read read.  The more educated you are about what is going on with your body and the information you will learn to quit will make it a lot easier than  you could imagine.  It  not so hard as everyone makes it out to be.  I used Chantix and have been quit for 96 days and I come on this web site almost daily.  I do not  blog a lot but read read and read what others are saying or suggesting to others.  I wish you the best of luck, life is worth saving one day at a time.  Make up you mind and you will be fine.

As a social smoker your situation may be a little different, in terms of nicotine withdrawl and the triggers that full-time smokers experience. I'm not sure. As the others above have said, read read read!  Understanding this addiction and the mental games we play with ourselves will be your best defense when you find yourself in those social situations and say "oh, one won't hurt!"  I used www.quitsmokingonline.com.

Welcome!

I agree Sarah. Thats why I told her just to get started.

That will be the telling of the tale as to just how addicted she is.

Sometimes we are more addicted than we know. LOL

Hi! So good too see you and congrats on your decision to quit smoking for good! You've already been given some great advice but I wanted to offer my support.

I also wanted to congratulate you on completing your college degree! That takes a great deal of self discipline - something you can draw on when you quit!  Way to go!
