So I have not drank any alcohol since quitting smoking.  I guess I am afraid I will want to smoke.  My neighbors are having a party and I really want to go.  We have about 6 houses that do everything together.  Most smoke however....I'm not sure what to do.  I have not even thought about cigarettes lately.  Suggestions????  Thanks! This site is the best thing that I have found! You guys are better than the PATCH! LOL  Thanks again...

My opinion,Since you REALLY want to go, GO... just don't drink alcohol. New Years Eve I have a feelin, with that many people are they gonna get crazy drunk...? you know them and how they get when they drink, most of them smoke... go hang with your friends and drink non alcoholic drinks... can you do that? Thats what I would do

I prefer not to drink, I quit drinking before I quit smoking. For no reason, just cause I felt like I was tired of getting drunk... if I want a margarita, Id have one... ONE... but man, I don't know, I smoked ALOT when I drank, and wanted to smoke alot when I drank... Im not chancing it... but thats just MY opinion...

curious, what do you like to drink when you're at a party? How would you describe your behavior? lol IM  not a psychologist LOL just trying to help you weigh out the pros and cons 🙂

ps: I just re-read your last blog from 1 week ago, how close you were to buying a pack of cigarettes... did you read that blog again... please think about this...

You said on this blog, you have NOT had any thoughts of smoking lately, but one week ago you did...

in fact you said you were VERY close... think about how important this party is... or stay home with us and party on the site 🙂

I quit drinking a year before I quit smoking, because when I drank I smoked twice as much. If I were you, or rather if it were me, I wouldn't drink. Someone has to drive to the store to get them more beer..lol.

Honestly I do have more fun now that I dont' drink. I just laugh at the drunk people, and for sure i feel better the next day.

It wasn't always that way, I remember many years ago, before I had my son I quit drinking and New Years, and a New Years party sucked.

I would say go with your intuition, if you think it will lower your inhibitions to the point where you will slip, just dont' do it.

one drink and then water the rest of the night.

Alcohol has been involved in the loss of many quits. You are still early in your quit so I agree that you should avoid the drinking. The most important thing right now has to be protecting your quit. You can always party next year and celebrate a years worth of freedom at the same time. Do what you want but protect your beautiful quit first.

With a 34 day quit?  I'd say skip the parties.  There will be many New Year's parties that you can have a blast at.  Actually, you've answered your own question whether you know it or not.   If you're afraid you'll still want to smoke, then you can bet you'll be in danger of doing so.  When you don't have to ask the question, you'll know you're safe.  Don't test yourself on New Year's Eve of all times, having your first drink as a new non smoker.  That - to my mind - is suicide.  If you must go - don't drink.  But better just to skip it this year.  Or hang out with non smoking friends if you've got any.  Or come to the party here.  It will be a blast.

Come to the party here.  you almost bought a pack only a week ago.  Please please protect your quit.  It is THE most important thing that you can do for yourself.  Love yourself.

You can do this!

Thanks you guys and you are right as always.  If I go (which I probably won't) I will not drink.  I do the dumbest stuff when I drink anyways.  I don't want to blow my quit!!!  Happy New Year everyone:)
