Never working again...

Well I woke up this morning - drove by myself in the car to exercise class and drove home by myself.  Currently my husband and son are out getting haircuts and lunch and stuff- I am cleaning the house - and guess what those nasty cigs are still in my car.  I did not throw them out ( the addict in me) but yet I am not tempted to smoke them at all.  I am going out with a few friends for dinner tonight - and pray to do the same.  I will then conclude it is not home that makes me smoke but damn work.  SO I will quit my job on Monday... Just kiding... but I do need to look at how I will get past this....

I have 3.5 cigarettes left in the kitchen cupboard. I  am on my third day of quit and already threw out ashtrays and lighters, but those cigs are still there. Hmmm, I keep thinking each one costs .32 cents and that would be a big waste of money to get rid of them. The addict in me too, because that is just stupid of me. I really keep thinking what if I panic, go crazy or something equally dramatic what will I do without them. What if there is a blizzard here in CO and I can't get to the store for some? Well, I had my first crisis a few hours ago when my good-for-nothing ex-boyfriend came over and whined and yelled about how he needs money NOW! He told me he is spreading rumors about me and I had better give him some money or it will get worse. Without even thinking I ran upstairs to have a smoke and realized I had quit. I rode the horrible wave through and didn't have anything awful happen. I think I can make it through this and throw those 3.5 cigs away in a few days. Good luck to you Bridget.

Sincerely, Cynthia

I was such a closet smoker that I had cigs hidden all over & forgot about them until I was cleaning out drawers. I tried a puff each time I found one (I'm a addict!) & then wet each one down & threw it out. try to be stronger than the drug.

You are funny and honest. Who the heck has not done that - puff and wet and throw out and step on - crush up - etc... The last pack I threw out after smoking one out of them - I threw in the garbage with the dog shit - just in case I was going to be tempted and that worked!!!

I am not sure if I am willing to give up the closet smoking - ha ha I had one cig  thing.  I hope so...

Well- I hate to be the voice of disagreement---but GET RID OF THE CIGARETTES! One of the ways to get through the cravings is to just "delay" having a cigarette until the craving passes. They come almost every 5 minutes in the beginning and then tend to get less and less. BUT ---if you have them in the house, your first delay is gone. Plus, it is best to make the break. Tell yourself you don't smoke any more. Don't  "plan" for a panic attack where you will need a cigarette. Because if you do, I guarantee you will have one. Not trying to be negative here--so please excuse me if it sounds like that---but you did ask how to get past it. Keeping cigarettes won't help.

You are right Sootie - but I guess I  mean I know I am not willing to let that yet.  I will stay with it though- and no you are not being hard - it makes sense and is right - I work with drug addicts and never would I tell them it is ok to keep the heroin just in case and nicotine - cigs are the same thing for me !

Thank you... .

Girl, I don't know how you do that! I would be smoking those bad boys so fast, lol! That's great though...that shows how committed you are and how much discipline you have.  Keep it up!!!
