Don't know about the shot.  I use the patch.  It works for me.  Good luck!  I am 47 and have the same M. O. minus the surgery issue.  You can do it.  I have been quit since Nov. 1st.  I pray you find what works for you.  Make up your mind to do it.  Everyone here will help as much as they can.  They are wonderful, but it really is up to you.  Good Luck to you and God Bless you with success!

Come to this website. read the comments.  There are others that know more than me and they will be responding to you too.  Glad you are here.  Congrtulations on your decision to quit!

I used the patch for 10 of my first 14 days. that was 4 years ago.

But I used it to take the edge off the craves while I learned where they were coming from.

and i learned to laugh everytime i craved

Hi - welcome to the site! I smoked for 40 years and I am now quit for 171 days - so - you CAN do this!! Read, read, read - blogs here, the free on line course at http://quitsmokingonline.com/ and if you can get it Allen Carr's book (The Easy Way to Stop Smoking). You have come to the right place!

Hi - you have definately come to the right place.  I quit over a year ago.  I am also 52 years old and smoked since I was 16.  I used Chantix and it seemed to be the thing that worked for me.  Honestly, I never thought I could quit and I wasn't even 100% sure that I wanted to quit.  For me, the chantix helped me to cut back from 1.5 packs/day to about a half a pack (this took almost 3 months using chantix),  I woke up one day and decided (with the help of this site) to not smoke in the morning.  I couldn't believe that I made it through the morning, so I decided to smoke after lunch.  After lunch I decided to postpone until evening and that is how I made it through my first day.  The days turned into weeks, etc.

Read the blogs here, take advice from people who have quit and keep an open mind.  I know it is almost impossible to envision life without smoking but the facts show that if you continue to push through it, you will join the ranks of the many many former long time smokers.

Hi I am on the patch, 41 days smoke free after 42 yrs of smoking. i too am having spine surgery and needed to quit. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 18th after a previous postponement because of a cough I had from quitting smoking. Good luck and we must do everything we can to make these surgeries successful. I dont want to go through all the pain and recovery of surgery if I am not going to be as healthy as possible and give it every chance there is to work. keep coming back here and read. Lots of great people and lots of great advice.
