My non smoking (E Cig) Journal

I am now on Day 8 of not smoking analog cigarettes.  I have used my e-cig (NJOY) that I bought from the travel station for $30.  I had two "real" cigs left when I started using the E Cig...I no longer have them.  I smoked them about 5 hours after starting the E Cig and I hacked up a lung.  I put the first one out and though..man, it has to be just THAT one.  I waited another 2 hours and lit the other cigarette up.  I got two drags off the cig and threw up!  Not pretty at all!

I use the e cig less than I would a regular cigarette.  I usually smoke first thing in the morning, within 5 minutes of waking up and before I go to bed it is the last thing I did.  I now get up and it may be 45 minutes to an hour before I even think about the E Cig.  I know its not perfect...but it works for me!  I have replaced the hand to mouth with the E Cig and have managed to lose 2 lbs.  Ok, it ain't the miracle I need for the weight loss....but it sure as heck beats gaining weight.

I have maintained my great mood and have even convinced my hubby, who is now on day 2 of his quitting process.  He has been a little snippy, but he is doing great and I am proud of him.  I wanted everyone to know that E Cigs are not for everyone.  They are not advertised as smoking cessation...but I am now on day 8 after smoking 1 -2 packs a day for over 17 years.  If anyone has any questions...I will do my best to assist and answer them.  I am not a doctor, nurse or anything, but I am REAL person who has put them down and has saved on average $10 per day.  That is money I can put back for vacation, paying down bills, my daughters college education, etc (and probably not in that order, lol).

Good Luck to everyone and God Bless!

Thanks Maggie!  So glad to be here and not in my regular cloud of smoke.  Hope this helps someone out there to quit.  If not, then it is very cathartic to post what I feel at least.

Anything to NOT put smoke in your lungs is a good thing. I mean anything. Good going! Everytime I bought a pack of cigarettes, I'd tell the salesperson "this is my last pack." SO many people recommended the eCig. Said it worked for their mothers, fathers, themselves. It's not for me... as I want to rid myself of the nicotine addiction.. but it seems to definitely be a great solution for those simply not wanting to smoke! Keep it up!

Ok, well, I'm often known for upsetting the apple cart but may I suggest that with nicotine still in your bloodstream, you have not really gone thru your withdrawal period? That of course you'd be doing well?

Even if you're into the steam deal, with no nicotine, you're still doing a "pretend" smoke....how is this going to help you in the long run? Won't you have to stop with the e-cig too?

Just wondering....it would never have worked for me.

I'm sorta the type either you quit or you don't.

@Lynette,

It is a misconception that NRT is an "easy way out." I used NRT and STILL went through withdrawal period. It was my frustration with NRT not really helping me ENOUGH, that I decided to bite the bullet.

I thought this was a "safe" support group to help people in their efforts to quit inhaling cigarette smoke + 4000+ chemicals into their lungs. I support anyone on this journey. They are being conscious of quitting smoking. I hope that by supporting them, they will not only quit cigarettes, but eventually become more proactive in all matters of their health and well-being.

I congratulate you on your success in your goal of not having nicotine. I also respect and applaud others' goals in simply not smoking a cigarette, no matter what.

I have also used the e-cig to help my quit. It was always part of my plan. I wish that this was not a crutch I need, but I believe it has helped my maintain my quit several times. (Like the day I lost my job.) I am completely off the patch now, but still using the e-cig when I have drinks.  I have cut the nicotine down to zero. Now I have to work on being able to go through life without this last crutch.  I think I can do it, but I am not going to rush myself either.  I will do it as I am ready.

Glad that it's helping you with your quit. 🙂

yup, i am going to try it too. I already have it. April 4th is my quit date. It has also been a plan from the beginning to use it if I need to. Just so long as I am not lighting up a smoke, I dont care and will eventually quit using the ecig too.

But I am going to only use it in the most dire situations. Good job on your quit 🙂

First off....it is great that you have not had any tobacco for 8 days!  That is definetly a step in the right direction.  However, I do have the same concerns as Lynette does.  You see, I too used an e-cig about 9 months ago.  It didn't do a thing for me other than keep my boyfriend, at the time, from harping at me ALL the time to quit smoking.  Yes, they do contain nicotine and eventually you'll have to wean yourself from that.  What made me quit?

First, I got rid of the boyfriend and then I threw away the e-cig...if I was going to quit (because I wanted it), then I was going to do it once and that was it....I was not going to use a substitute to 'trick' myself into believing I still could smoke but it wasn't as bad for me as an actual cigarette.  Believe me TxRedhead07...I AM glad that you've cut way back & I sincerely hope that one day you can put that e-cig down and be done with it all.  The thing I'm most concerned about is people reading this who are new to the site and haven't actually decided to quit but they are thinking about it and I don't want them to think that if they go the e-cig way then it won't be hard and they will think that they've Quit!!  That little Nicodemon in our head will try anything to keep us addicted....the little bugger!!

I guess I am curious now...the e cig cartridge that I have says NO Nicotine (0%) all over the box of 5.  I have gone onto the website for the company and it also says NO Nicotine.....so if it says there is none..why should I think there is any in there?  I did start on the low ones, but immediately switched to the non nicotine cartridges.  I guess if there is nicotine in my NO nicotine cartridges then I should probably get them for false ads..lol  I am going through the withdrawals...I WANT ONE VERY BADLY....but my mindset is different than it was the other times I tried to quit.  I STILL WANT ONE....but it is only habit talking.  I am pretty sure that everyone on here can decide for themselves which is the best way for them and I appreciate any and all comments.  But this IS the way for me.  Since I am not smoking real cigs with ANY nicotine in them and only puff on the e cig about 10 times a day now, I think I am doing pretty good.  It is now Day 12 and I still have not had one.....and not maimed anyone in the process, lol.
