Tomorrow is day 3 no smoking and this is by far the the hardest habit I have ever tried to kick.  On the patch and have the gum.  Been smoking since I was 17 will be 44 in December.

Congrats Bridget on your quit. It is truly one of the toughest things I have ever done. The physical stuff gets over quickly enough but the mental is the real challenge. If you just remember that quit means quit and that smoking is no longer an option you will do this. It is all about mindset. Think of this journey as an adventure. You will have many “first times” and hurdles but you will survive them all and be that much stronger for it.

Stay out of your head. If you are constantly thinking about smoking you are going to want to do it. Be stubborn. You are a non smoker, end of story. Enjoy the ride.

We are here for you. Be amazing!

Thank you so much for your encouragement!  I was able to do an advatar picture but don’t know how to put a profile picture.  Any suggestions would be helpful and I am having trouble not thinking about smoking all day long but hopefully one day I won’t anymore.

If you go to the top right of any page you will see your avatar with a down arrow just to the right. If you click on that there will be a drop down menu that says edit profile

I’m not very tech but if you go to the top right and click on your personal and then edit profile it allows you to add pictures.

Any time I started thinking about smoking I just literally shook the thought right out of my head. . It’s important NOT to think about it all. When I smoked my last cigarette I knew I was never going to smoke again. There are very few things in life that we have control of. A lot of times it feels like our lives are not our own. I was not going to let myself down. For me, because I had made the commitment and smoking was never going to be an option it made it easier. I’ve been quit for 8 months now. Was it easy? No, but I survived and life is good!

Hi and Welcome to Ex’s Hippoface

Congratulations on Day 3...the first week is the hardest because you are withdrawing mentally and physically from the nicotine...drink lots of water and keep busy...once the nicotine is out of your body it seems we have to work hard on the mental addiction...if you haven’t already, I suggest you read at My EX Plan | BecomeAnEX it just will help you learn more about quitting and to identify your craves and triggers.  It will make you think about what you can do instead of smoking.  /blogs/Youngatheart.7.4.12-blog/2013/02/25/100-things-to-do-instead-of-smoke?sr=search&searchId=3746... Also, keep close to the support site to read blogs, to support others and to get help...This journey is so much more than just quitting, but it takes time while your body heals from all the smoke/chemicals/nicotine...one step at a time...You are worth this quit...Hang in there....Happy Monday, gotcha in my thoughts ~ Colleen 280 DOF

Good for you! Three Days of Freedom!

Nicotine is an addiction, not a habit. That's why it's so much harder. It's absolutely physical and not just a matter of will.

We're all glad you're here.

First three days are the toughest.  Here's a good craving buster for you:  Craving Buster Technique‌  Gotta keep yourself distracted a LOT in the beginning of this journey.  Humor helps too.  You hang in there!

Welcome to EX, education about nicotine addiction is very helpful, accepting that it is an addiction makes it easier to understand WHY it is so hard.  Quitting is not an event, it is a one day at a time journey.  Drink lots and lots of water to flush your system, keep in mind that withdrawal is just not easy but it IS possible.  Support from people who have been exactly where you are helps immensely and staying close to this site is a big part of that.  Having a plan for what to do INSTEAD of smoking is really helpful, you will get stronger one day at a time...your biggest ally is yourself.  Commit to your quit, no smoking, no matter what.

I appreciate you taking the time for the wise words and encouragement.  I definitely drink a ton of water.  I’m only in the beginning of this battle and felt like giving up a zillion times already but I will keep pushing through and hope one day that the thought of wanting a cigarette will be in the past.  Thank you

Hi Bridget, congratulations and great job thus far! I read your day 3 post first and then this one.

I've found being on the site and keeping the community close to be helpful. I also thought whyquit.com helped in the beginning to get me angry at the tobacco corporation, plus there are videos to help give ideas of how to cope!

Please, keep posting about your journey, ask questions, and maybe even reinforce your decision to quit by encouraging others!
