My life, relearned

I'm day 3 smoke free.   I started taking Chantix Jan. 3 and began the process of learning life with less cigarettes. Even though everyone and everywhere advocates, insists even on setting a QUIT date, I did not.  It just did not work for me.  I did start out marking a specific QD on my calendar, but every time I glanced at it, I was filled with dread and apprehension-kind of like when I had gum surgery scheduled 2 years ago! LOL And I was smoking even more, I guess to store up???*shrugs*  sheeeeeeeeeeezzzzz

So, I ditched the deadline and just started focusing on decreasing the # of cigs daily and breaking all those triggers( a few at a time) over a period of 6 weeks.  I decided I had way too many habits associated with smoking to break all at once so I took on 2 or 3 at a time giving each "phase" a couple weeks to "take".  I went down from 25 cigs a day to 15,10, 8, 5, 3, and the final 1 was 12 noon Feb. 14.   At the time I had not actually decided " THIS is the last cig." but later that day realized it was.  It just seemed it was time.

And here I am 3 days later-yea I know its too early to gloat *grins* but dammit I'm proud of myself.  I really believe after 35 years I'm finally FREE!!

I can't say enough praises about the Chantix.  I've had no side effects from the drug and I'm not climbing the walls or biting off heads (so far, LOL) because of no cigs.

It's good to be an EX...*smiles*

Congratulations! We are proud of you too!! I'm only on hour 34, but I am proud of myself too. I have had many quits end far earlier than this. We can do this!

3 days is awesome! I agree with James- weaning is a hard way to go but if it works, why not? That proves that everyone responds to quitting differently. Be careful and take it one day at a time and don't fall into the "I can have just one" trap. Stay focused and you'll begin to see the quit days accumulate. Smart move - you have chosen life.

Best wishes to you - stay with us!

I am super proud of you! You made a decision to do it your way and it worked! I am on day17 and feel good, there are still struggles and the ugly old nicodemon sticks his head out, but you learn how to deal with it. I hope that you keep coming on here and letting us know how you are doing. This site has helped me so much! Stay strong, Annie

Congrats, that is exactly the same way I did it.  I'm using nicotine gum and not the chantix,  but after a while of cutting down, I just decided one day that I was done with them, and on Sunday it will be 4 weeks smoke free!   Good luck, no pressures!

I appreciate your honesty. I have been on chantix for a week. It is 3:50, I have not smoked today, but I am paniced about to quit totally tomorrow. I am also reading Alan Carr, "The easy way to Stop Smoking. I am especially worried when I have a glass of wine at 5pm

Whatever works! I'm on Chantix too and during the first week I went from a pack to 3 cigs in 2 days and was a total wreck. I did the whole tracking thing and kept delaying or only taking 2 puffs and saving the rest for later. That way I could smoke 10 times and only have 3 cigs. Anyway, I was totally in a panic about Quit Day, but it was a relief to not have to keep making the decision on how much and when to smoke. I'm still edgy because I've had to get a whole new routine and its not set yet. Its not craving, its a feeling of being on guard and a restlessness. Its hard to concentrate on reading, etc., but knitting is taking the place of smoking. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Congratulations, every minute smoke free is a good reason to celebrate !!!

I too am on Chantix, and it has been the BEST aid I have ever tried in my many attempts to quit.....  only side affects have been some vivid weird dreams.  Celebrating my 46th smoke free day !!!!    🙂
