My Wife Quit! Check out my daughters plea!

Amazing...  I am so excited.  I want to be supportive and helpfull and THERE for her...  But I don't want to be pushy or annoying either.  I will play it by ear but my wife QUIT!

Here is how it worked out.

The other evening while she was out, I was playing video games with my middle daughter while my youngest was coloring on the coffee table.  She told us she was making a book which is not uncommon.  Now and then she would ask how to spell a word and we would tell her, but for the most part we payed little attention to what she was making.

When she was done she asked to use the stapler so she could put her book together, and then brought it to proudly show her work.  She wanted to make sure that her mom saw it so she wanted it all stapled together and put somewhere where it would be found..  Well it was a book called "The Stop Smoking Book" and it is the most darling thing.  We had a hard time convincing Mom that we had not prompted the writing of the book and that it was completely on her own initiative.

It worked!...  The next night she cerimoniously quit smoking.  I HAD to scan everything and take photos.  Here is a link to the page with the book and pictures.:

Your excitement is contagious.....I 'm happy your wife decided to quit. I just want to warn you not to be too "solicitous" about it. If you've read a lot of the blogs, you'll notice we don't like to be reminded about it too often. It takes considerable effort to make this decision and to distract the mind when the cravings hit. That's why we sometimes seem angry when asked how it's going because that just brought it back into our thoughts. Good Luck to you and your family. We'll alll be pulling for your wife!!!!

Now that she has quit...  I have been going over all my old posts.  It seems so long ago but still it is fresh in my mind the whole quit process.  It was so easy to make it a great big deal in my mind.

Quitting is so simple.  Not easy, but simple.  The feelings of being trapped are hard.  I would rather be a non-smoker that occasionaly feels a desire to smoke than a smoker that ALWAYS wishes I could quit.

Having a smoke does NOTHING for you.  Not a thing.  All it des is stisfy a craving.  The craving made you anxious and smoking stopped the craving.  that is not the same as smoking relaxes you, or every non smoker would be a basket case due to lack of nicotine.  When you light up, you are doing what you have conditioned yourself to do in order to feel like a NON SMOKER.

The only way to quit....  Is to not smoke.  anything else just prolongs the difficulty.

Pretty powerful request from a child. Whats even better is that your wife honored the request. Tell her she's my hero....wish that I could have done this years ago when my children were small and asked me to quit. Eventually, they just gave up and quit asking. She's taught your children that it's important  to value someone elses feelings and concerns. That's pretty awesome!!!!
