My Mom

She had no idea about smoking? my Mom is 56yrs old and did not know? She is in the hospital (not smoking related) and the nurse told her that she sounds like she has emphysema. When I heard this my heart dropped because my Mom is as stubborn as me. I asked her a question yesterday "do you know why you smoke?" her answer... I like it! I said NO you are addicted!! there was a long pause and then "well I want a cigarette now" I replied with "do you know why?" long pause... "why" she said I told her she NEEDED the nicotine! This also surprised her??

I told her that if she quit her lungs would heal and she would feel great! She will see what she can do? Well I understand her and her fear of course but it also surprised me that she just did not know! I hope you all are having a great smoke free day! I know I am : -)

Lisa - I'm older than your mom (59) and I really didn't have an understanding of this addiction either! It took the education I got here - at quitsmokingonline.com, whyquit.com and Allen Carr's book. You always do such a good job of sharing pages from quitsmokingonline.com.....perhaps your mom would be willing to go there and read? That site really opened my eyes! SHe may not be open to learning about it yet.... It may be that providing your good example is the only thing you can do right now....

Lisa... let`s try this again. It doesn`t matter if it`s cigs... a daily fifth of whiskey... or hardcore narcotics. We all get addicted because WE LIKED IT! That`s the bottom line. We all get hooked on this stuff because it makes us feel good. It calms nerves  during a rough patch in the middle of the day or after a meal. We all start using this stuff and discover that we like it. That`s what makes a quit a little tougher because we know it`s hurting us... but at the same time we it`s also something that we have all enjoyed. Good Luck!
