My Daily Quite Journal - Day #14

Hello All!

My name is Alec and I just made it through day #14 of my quite! I just discovered this community today, but I have been keeping a daily journal for myself on my journey. Instead of keeping it to myself I thought I would share here instead.

I keep track of my cravings I have every day, today was a pretty light day of cravings but there were definitely some strong ones. I went online to look for some tips and read about other people's journeys and that is how I found MyEx! Really happy I did find it because I feel like I finally have a community and lots of extra tools at my fingertips to help with my quit.

In addition to keeping track of my cravings I have also made it a goal to further strengthen my relationship with my wife. I spent a lot of time hiding my addiction, so it means a lot to me not only to focus on my quit but to strengthen my marriage. To do that I focus on three different categories everyday - commitment, intamicy and passion.

  1. Commitment - what little things can I do every day to show my wife I am committed to this quit
    • Today my commitment was easy because I stumbled across MyEx. I immediately signed up and looked through the website. I was so happy about the extra tools and community I found and shared it with my wife ASAP. She was happy I found other people who could relate to what I was going through
  2. Intamicy - What can I do daily to be positive, open and honest with my wife about my quite
    • I share with my wife everyday about my cravings and struggles, most times it is a positive conversation and today wasn't any different. We talked about the intense cravings I had, the new "sciences" I learned about quitting from MyEx and even told her about a post titled "No Mans Land" that I read on this website today that I found really interesting
  3. Passion - What can I do daily to evoke happy feelings/thoughts for my wife and bring enjoyment to her life
    • This portion is less focused on my quite and more focused on strengthening our relationship. Today we cooked a great risotto dinner, we love cooking together and it is one of our favorite meals so this made us both smile. Additionally, the DLC for Mario Kart 8 came out today (mine and my wife's favorite game to play together). Needless to say we spent a lot of quality time this evening playing our game, maybe more smiles for me since I am the better racer 😉

Lastly, I like to focus on the things that make sad and happy on a daily basis. I think it is important to focus on both so I know what is worth my time and effort as I continue on in my quite

  • What made me sad today
    • Honestly, I did not really feel any sadness today. I do live in Minne"snow"ta so the weather today was a little bit of a downer. But overall it was a great day and nothing really to be sad about
  • What made me happy today
    • Had a great lunch break! Got out of the house, got Costco pizza for lunch and even topped off my gas tank!
    • I took my dog Sweetie on a lovely walk today. Getting outside and seeing her enjoy that warms my heart
    • Playing Mario Kart and cooking a great dinner with my wife
    • Having some me time at the end of the day to play some of my own video games (COD)
    • Had a great workout at the gym today
    • Had a good work day, with not a lot of scheduled meetings

That is all for today! I will plan to make daily posts to hold myself accountable and share my journey! Feel free to follow along and share your own stories 🙂
