Monday - The "Day"

Tomorrow is my quit day. I'm normally not real verbal about things; however, maybe it's something I should thing about doing.  I have not told anyone close to me my plans so if I "slip" I won't be shamed or disappoint anyone. lol

I'm looking forward to checking, ummmm, no checking is not the word, STALKING the forums for the next few years! HA.  So bear with me.  I'm here to stay.  Going to give the old "college" try and get this done.   It's a huge desire of mine.  So that's it for now.  Sure I will have more to say tomorrow and come crawling out of the dark corners of the first day. I've done this before for a year and a half.  So I do know the first few days will be  the hardest.  😉   Have a great Sunday.  Myself, I'm getting rid of stuff today.  LOL!

Hi 4b - I feel a little weird calling you that LOL.  Have you educated yourself about the addiction to nicotine?

Here are some really cool things to look at and read that I promise will help you out sooo much:

This does not have to be an impossible struggle if you don't make it one.

You CAN!

Hi, Cindy!  You say you joined EX a long time ago, but since I've never seen you surface before, I'll say "Welcome to EX!!"  I'm really glad that you are ready to quit .  Forever this time, right? You CAN do it.

There is some important preparation before your Quit Date.  You said in your comment on Renee's recent blog that have been reading things on EX for awhile and that you like what you read.

So, no doubt, you've heard about Allen Carr's book, "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking".  The title is a bit of a misnomer because it's not easy to quit.  But it is a short easy read that will help you flip your thinking around 180 degrees.

Flip your thinking from what into what???  From seeing quitting as "giving up" something, as "doing without" enjoyment, as "sacrificing" a pleasurable thing into seeing quitting as FREEDOM.

Freedom from what?  From being a slave to an addiction to nicotine, from worrying about when and where you can smoke your next cigarette, from spending money you can ill-afford, from stinking like a smelly ashtray, from being ashamed and embarassed, from panicking when you run out of cigarettes, from hiding from your family, friends, co-workers when you smoke...

Understanding nicotine addiction will give you a HUGE advantage in quitting.  Please read my most recent blog called "A Smart Turkey".  And then go to whyquit.com and read an article called "Nicotine Addiction 101".  It's located in the top left corner of whyquit's homepage.  There is a twirling yellow cube next to it.

Cindy, please tell your friends and family that you are quitting!   A strong support group is KEY.  You can get a lot of support here, but you need it in 3-D as well.  To hide your q

Oops, hit Post by mistake...let me continue...

To hide your quit is to allow yourself to believe that you might not be successful, i.e. it's okay to fail because nobody in your real life will know about it.  You will be ASTOUNDED at the amount of support and cheerleading and love you will get by "coming out" about your plan to quit.

Finally, banish the concept that this is a "try" or an "attempt" or that you'll need "good luck".  That's another weak link in the chain.

To succeed, DECIDE to quit.  COMMIT to that decision.  Then HONOR your commitment every day.  It may be minute-by-minute at first.  But it will become hour-by-hour.  Then day-by-day.  And as long as you keep cigaretts away from your face, you ARE an ex-smoker!

Remember to be HAPPY about this, Cindy!  This a wonderful thing you are doing!  It may not be easy, but you will never regret quitting!

Hi Cindy....this is Day 9 for me and I am still alive!!  I am taking Chantex which is helping the anxiety.  I just know I'm going to KICK this disgusting addiction this time!  Best wishes to you.

Welcome!  I totally agree with Sky and don't have much to add.  I told everyone about my Quit date and got support from totally unexpected places.  Some of the folks who I thought would be my major cheerleaders and were closest to me were afraid to hope that this was actually my forever Quit and withheld support.  I started my Quit when I was 62 and am three years plus into it, so feel free to message me.

Ah, thank you all for your support.  Okay, I will tell my family. I can see where that might make it easier to slip. Great tip.  Thank you, thank you all!  Yes, I joined here in 2008, and just never said much and really didn't really get with the program. But I am tomorrow. I certainly will let you all know througout the day how it's going. I've tried Chantix, patches, ecigs, vapors, you name it, I've tried it.  The most successful for a one a half year quit was cold turkey.  I think I'm just going to to ahead with the patches for now though.

Thanks again everyone!!  Really!!!

Cindy

PS.  I wish I knew how to get rid of that odd name they have for me.  That was from way  back when. LOL!
