Hello Everyone,
Hope all had a safe and smoke free holiday weekend. I managed to stay smoke free while visiting my husband. I used my phone support as well as much of this site. He will be home this weekend but I feel pretty good about my goal to stay smoke free. Of course some good advice will help also. My son went on a camping weekend with some friends this past weekend. When he came home he told me he had only smoked 4 cig's. I know he sees me staying smoke free and with talks to him and him seeing his mother do it, he will in turn put down those nasty cig's. It's funny how when I was smoking you would here people talk of others who had quit and how they appear to preach (in a helpful way) and say how smoke stinks now and so on. well I find myself doing that to my husband. He just says.. yeah yeah.. he wants to quit too and I hope he does. Any advice on helping loved ones kick the habit?

I wish there was a formula for that, but the truth is everyone has to come to that choice on their own and no matter what you say he will not stop until he wants to. Think about it, how long did you listen to folks talk to you and how many times did it go in one ear and out the other? I know for me probably a 1000 times, but I came to it on my own, my guy did not and now he has quit too, everyone is different, if he sees you,and that you are successful that is the best example of it can be done for him....

Hi Lisa, I agree with Cindy! When I first told my husband I had quit smoking he didn't take it too seriously -- he sure does now!! I encourage you to focus on protecting your own quit!!! Your example will speak louder than any words you could ever say. Congratulations on your Quit!!! Sandra

Thankyou Sandra and Cindy. You are right. I know many many times the doctors told me the best thing I could do is quit. I used to feel guilty for going to ER with my asthma because I smoked and when they asked if I smoked, I would say "yes..with a guilty conscious". I will remember your advice to stay smoke free and set an example for others. There were times in the past where I would tell my husband I'm going to quit and he said... ok, if you quit then I will quit. Then I would continue to smoke so I guess my hubby too was a little skeptical this time. I should also say that was one of the requirement for some surgery I am going to have in the near future .So I am glad I can say I am smoke for.. for today.
