This my 2nd day of not smoking. Its been hard but I have pushed through it. I dont think switching to pot will make a difference. I smked pot for 6 years and the messed up part about it was I was able to drop pot like that and never touch it again. I cant do that with cigs. I am doing it now with the help of patches and those nasty lozenges!!! I have talked to alot of people on here that are in the same position as me or way farther along and you just have to keep your minid into it. If its what you want that you have to help yourself believe you can succeed!!!! I am living proof right now. I believe that I can do, therefore I am not going to give up. You have the will power to do it, just believe in yourself. We are all here to help you WHENEVER YOU NEED IT!

90% of people who smoke marijuana do not become physically addicted. You may find some who are morally opposed to such an idea, and will try to force their opinons on you.
Nicotine is a horribly addictive drug and it is hard to quit. My best weapon was "smoking" cut up straws and lots of cold water. You can do this.
Rick was definately right. Keep a positive attitude and there is plenty of good support here. You will re-learn to do things without cigarettes.
Be well. Remember to breathe.
Peace.

aloha gayle, welcome. you have 2 different addiction. learn as much as you can about both. education is your key to understanding what to expect and how to deal with your detox. you will need a quit plan, will you go cold turkey or use patches or chantix? I used the patch as it helped to get over the hardest part. junkie thinking will be your next big hurdle. you have to retrain your brain about both addictions and learn to think, cope and act with a non addicted brain. again education will really help with all this. IMO the craves for cigs are based more on the dependency we built up for the nicotine and all that the addictions brings with it. again IMO the pot detox is more about the "buzz" and the feelings associated with that a bit like wanting the buzz from drink or pills. take it slow, figure out a game plan. map out a plan for yourself and give it a go. keep at it until you get where you want to be. FYI ignore any strange or mean posts in reply to this. this site has a crusader but far more people on here make no judgments. you will do this no worries

Well Gayle regardless of what a small minority of say on here, if you want to stop smoking, don't smoke marijuana. Numerous studies have shown marijuana smoke to contain carcinogens and to be an irritant to the lungs. In fact, marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent MORE carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke. Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which further increases the lungs’ exposure to carcinogenic smoke. Smoking marijuana is still smoking. It's like changing seats on the titantic.

Man, Edith, you are so ruled by Marijuana. Yes, you're right that smoke - whether it's cigs, pot, crack, campfire, grilling, incense, whatever burns is bad for ones lungs. Let's kick the nicotine addiction. We are here to kick the nicotine ash.

I am rather confused by the Titanic refrence, if I was in the crew at the bottom in the boiler rooms ,the band that played as the ship sank or not a 1st class passanger then changing seats would be a real oppertunity right soooooo.... hmmmmmm take what you need and leave the rest!

Long Term Effects
Marijuana smoke contains some of the same cancer-causing compounds as tobacco, sometimes in higher concentrations. Someone who smokes 1 to 3 joints can produce the same lung damage and potential cancer risk as smoking five times as many cigarettes.

Marijuana contains more than 400 chemicals, including most of the harmful substances found in tobacco smoke. Smoking one marijuana cigarette deposits about four times more tar into the lungs than a filtered tobacco cigarette.

Harvard University researchers report the risk of a heart attack is five times higher than usual in the hour after smoking marijuana.

Reaction time for motor skills, such as driving, is reduced by 41% after smoking one joint and is reduced 63% after smoking two joints.

There have been over 7,000 published scientific and medical studies documenting the damage that marijuana poses. Not one study has shown marijuana to be safe.
