Mardi Gras Down rest of my life to go.

I had my last cigarette on Sunday Feb. 14th. I am from New Orleans and made it through Mardi Gras Day without even a puff. I figure if I can do that, then this could actually be a possibility. Of course I didn't drink any alcohol because that would have proven fatal for my non-smoking journey. I will wait to drink until I think I have this beat but I guess that will be the real test. Anyone else feel this way or have any of you slipped after doing so well then falling after drinking? No I don't have a drinking issue. I do like to drink socially, a few cocktails on the weekend or some beers at a crawfish boil. I do know that when I drink I smoke like a chimney so that's why I am waiting to drink.  All replies welcome. Day 3.

I think drinking is the biggest relapse trigger to a lot of people. If you can, I would avoid those situations, at least for a while until you feel stronger.  At Day 3 all of the nicotine has left your system - it's the psychological habit part that you now have left.

You can do it - becasue you ARE doing it. Best wishes to you!

That is my problem a well, Husband and I both have a few beers after dinner and then I start smoking as much as I can.  Im doing better with not picking up the cigarettes since we dont smoke in the house but I am having the hardest time sleeping for me on day 2 without having a few drinks at night to wind down but I know that would be all it would take right now to start smoking again.  No excuses for me this time.  Just stay focused.  Good luck to you.

That is when I always slipped---after drinking too soon after attempting to quit.  I'm on day 24 now,  and have avoided alcohol this whole time--I even went out socially and drank sparkling water.  I plan to avoid it another few weeks (at least) until I have an adult beverage again.

Maybe I just quit two bad habits then.
