Major Changes

Ok - so I am quitting smoking in 7 days. (Regular smoker for 29 years).  I have been reading everything I can to educate myself.  My 14 year old was accepted into a program last week with no bus transportation.. My husband started a job yesterday after 10 years of not working and once again- it is my responsibility to transport. I'm just going to rant about my feelings here because I need to release them somehow or I'm probably going to keep having panic attacks like I did just now sitting in the parking lot of the hospital (my husband works there now). I have a huge fear of medical places and I have done my best to avoid them for the last 3 years and have avoided driving as well.   I'm thinking avoidance is definitely not the answer here lol. So anyways - so much change and don't get me wrong - these are all good changes - including my quit, it's just taking some time to get adjusted with my anxiety disorder.  And it's time for me to stop avoiding my feelings with this addiction.. See? -  I'm already starting to feel better -  I CAN and WILL do this.

I really understand anxiety right now and I applaud you for your effort to find freedom! I'm so glad you've got this great attitude. That'll carry you a long way. And I'm learning that facing my fears is the best way to overcome them, but I know how hard it can be to face them at times. Please reach out to us any time you need to. I look forward to hearing of your success!!

ONWARD TO FREEDOM!!!

I am so happy for you, you are really getting ready and you are doing so well.  Absolutely, feel free to vent here ANY time...that's why we are here.  Sounds like the changes are really positive but we all know that any change is stressful...smoking just makes that worse.

"  The opposite of addiction is connection."  You can do this.  On your quit journey your emotions will become more stable.  I have seen it in myself and other's here over the last 6 years.

I'm not saying this to brag, just to encourage you. I have attempted to quit many times in the past. I'm on day 27 not of freedom from smoking, and the past 3 months have been one of the most challenging periods of my life. So challenging that it's changed me-for the better though. I believe if I can do this now, anyone can. And we will be with you all the way!

I feel you in every way!   I still cope with anxiety, but after 2 years of not smoking, and learning about this addiction, I am happy to say, I still cope with anxiety as a non smoker, and am doing just fine!  You can too!   We are all here to help you, and support you!   Welcome!

I have anxiety also but over time I have gotten better dealing with it. Smoking was a way for me to deal with anxiety in the past.  You can do this keep telling yourself you can as many times a day as you need to. It says on your profile you smoked 30 cigarettes a day you are going to save a lot of money now. I hope you buy yourself something special as your reward for not smoking you deserve it.

I hope you are well, did you get to your first day yet?  I hope you are still here and reading all the good stuff!   This site is

the best place for anyone wanting to quit smoking.   I smoked for 43 years, I am nicotine free for almost 2 years!   This kind of freedom feels so good!  Check in when you can, and post how you are doing!

Good for you and blogging it out!  My take; my anxiety and panic attacks lessened once I quit smoking.  Granted, they weren't at the level you are experiencing, but somehow, I fell that I'm in controll of eliminating a BIG addiction, I can deal, and control the other stuff when it approaches.  For instance, fears of driving more than 2 hours without smoking..finally conquered that after 3 years!  Maybe little things, like a social gathering, bon fires on the beach....she took a DEEP breath and  beat the demon that seemed to tap in my ear.

You will enjoy and celebrate your successes!!
