Made Through Tailgating

This Weekend we ventured out of New York to Indianapolis to go see the AFC Championship. For sure i thought I was going to break and wind up smoking a cigarette. I went with 12 friends . The first night we went out to the bar scene in the city and little did I know that smoking was allowed in bars in Indiana. So I had cigarettes beinglit right next to me and I was probably salivating from the mouth. I chewed on a piece of nicorette, alright a couple of pieces of nicorette and gladly made it through the night. Not only did I not smoke a cigarette i didn't have a drink either, which was a horrific experience, but helped me not smoke. Sunday we went to the parking lot at 12 pm and tailgated for 2hrs and a half. I watched everyone happily get drunk and lite up right in front of me. Honestly, I was experiencing some anxiety from being around it all. I wanted to participate so bad. I love drinking and smoing cigs. Im 25 and like to party sue me. But I didn't have a drink or smoke a cigarette because I love myself more.

Good for you. I was afraid of the weekend myself because it meant I wouldn't have the diversion of the office to keep me distracted. It is one day at a time. Keep it up.

That resisting when people are smoking is empowering for some reason, huh? and I like it when folks don't even notice that your not smoking.

Thanks for your insightful blog.

Right on!! I hear that...I refrained form drinking too..but Im sure as the smoke free weekends come & go, we'll eventually enjoy drinking without smoking! I plan on drinking at home for a while before thinking of going out! Good for you man!! Keep it up!

Congratulations! I'm glad to hear that it can be done. I'm nervous about being around smokers. Hearing everyones success stories has given me a bit of courage though. Its so strange to actually dread the weekends. Ha! Anyway, congratulations, you should be proud of yourself
