Lethargic | Sleepy | Unproductive

When is this going to stop? I am so tired and unable to focus everyday, but I go to sleep between 9 and 10 every evening, getting at least eight to ten hours of sleep a night, and I still could take a nap if it were able to; Although, I am sure work would frown upon finding me asleep at my desk. I am 33 days free, and everything I have read stated that between the second and third week I would feel considerably better.

Has anyone else had this issue, or are going through this same feeling, and is there anything that you have done that has been successful in helping? I mostly drink water and eat balanced meals and I also take vitamin supplements daily to ensure I am getting everything that my body needs. Is this just another process that I can attribute to my body clensing itself from the damage I have done to it for the past ten years, or am I out of the norm?

Well, I've always been out of the norm, so don't answer that, but seriously, I just want to be able to stay awake and get something accomplished FULLY in a day!

learning to live without a very long habit you had is not easy. I just stayed busy and spent a lot of time in the library reading lots of books , writing down recipes and poems I like, not that I ever read them again or cooked all those recipes, but it kept me busy for hours. Some times were peaceful and some were not, from the 1st day to 1 yr, I dont know why, thats just the way it was for me. When I got to 1 year, for some reason it got easier, maybe it was just in my head, but for whatever reason, it got easier. Hang in there and stay strong, you will be 100% happy one day...I promise!!

Everybody is different - and your body is working really hard in the background to heal itself from the damage being done.

That being said, I always find that exercise energizes me and is a great blah chaser! Have you tried that?  If it isn't weather to go walking in your area right now, you can dance to some of your favorite music, or march in place to it - or speed walk around the dining room table.

Don't complain about sleeping too much too loudly around here.  You might just get mugged by some early, sleepless newbies!!!

Hang in there!

Danielle, first off...Congratulations on Day 33!

Each person's body reacts in a different way.  There are no "normal" effects of quitting.  Some people feel better immediately and some people take longer to feel the benefits of quitting.  Some people experience a lot of different things (such as coughing more, stuffy nose, sore throat, sleeping more, sleepiing LESS, aches and pains of all kinds) after they quit.  And some people experience none of of those things.

You are doing great, Danielle.  Every single day that you don't put any nicotine into your body, two things are happening:

1) Your body is recovering in its own way at its own pace.

2)  You are SUCCEEDING at quitting smoking, regardless of the way you feel physically!!!!

So please be gentle with yourself.  And be proud of yourself, Danielle.  You are DOING this!

I'm glad you can sleep. I'm still suffering from insomnia. Different strokes for different folks!! It is definitely getting better with each passing day. You're doing what your body requires, evidently!! You are SUCCESSFUL!!

33 days is EXcellent!!! I felt more energy after about a month then I started walking outside 5 times a week for about 2 to 3 miles until Thanksgiving time, then when the weather got so cold(as it is now/Michigan)I stopped walking and now I am back to being sooo tired again.  Don't sleep the greatest but never have.  My hubby and I started going to a rec center by us and pay $5 each and walk on the treadmill then swim laps in the poo 2 to 3 times a week.  We started this two weeks ago so that seems to be helping somewhat.  So proud of you and keep stacking those days!

I am on day 32. I agree with the statements here, everyone is different, and their bodies will recover the way EACH body needs to. I do still get bouts of great tiredness. I know it seems hard and impossible when you have no energy, but being active in something sometimes does help with over tiredness. I find myself getting up off my duff now and then and doing stuff, anything, just to get up and do something. I'm making newer better habits to replace my old nasty one. Keep doing what your doing, not smoking! Let your body heal itself as it needs to. Find something new and fun (might I suggest dance/music) and perhaps try eating some fruit in the afternoon, maybe even with tea if you have to. Natural sugar in the fruit for a boost, and tea does have cafiene. Keep us posted and hang in there!

Congratulations on day 33!! I account the sleepiness as part of depression but the antidote is still the same.  Eat more fruit and exercise.  It will help with the sleepiness or depression.  You can do some stretches in your chair which will help as well for a quick remedy.

Congrats on the quit!!!  I am only 15 days smoke free so far.  I also go to bed around 9pm everynight.  I wake up during the night at least once and then have a hard time falling asleep.  Then during the day I am so sleepy!  I know it is my body healing and trying to adjust without the yucky drugs.  Every day gets a little bit easier.  Hang in there!  This group is so wonderful!

Congratulations on Day 33! I'm so glad the rest of the group was here to help because I didn't know what to tell you. I learned a lot from reading your blog and the responses you received. Every day is a learning experience 🙂

Danielle, when I think of quitters I think of the seven dwarfs, all of them with different personalities and different dispositions, but all of them were still dwarfs!

Keep at it.  This just "is".  Accept that you're going through and it will pass eventually.  Be willing to wait it out.  It will get better!

Congrats on day 33!  I remember those sleepless nights.  It definately takes time, as your body is healing from all the damage that has been done.  I found that drinking some decaffinated hot peppermint tea before bed helped me relax and get some well needed rest.   Good luck to you!  Keep up the good work, and be patient as things will get better!

This is so normal.  Your body is detoxing and it needs the rest so please do so as much as you can!  I invite you to go to my blogs from my first couple months and read some of the captions like "the Tireds."  Then read the advice I received.  I thought it was abnormal.  Turns out it's not!  How long it lasts differs for everyone but please do not worry about it because yep, it's part of the journey for many of us.  I found the more I rested the less nicodemon had a chance to visit too!   So treat yourself to a nice new soft blanket and snoozie doozie and NO GUILT!  Your body is doing GOOD for itself!  This means you are healing!
