Let the hurricane Parties Begin!

Tropical storm (soon to be hurricane,) Edouard is headed right for our doorstep. The people who live in the bottom half of the swamp are very, very, poor and I went down and helped an old lady we call Boogie who lives there with about 15+ dogs and cats. When the water comes up the people in the bottom can't get out without a boat. We have a vehicle that can usually make it through (see below,) if the current is not too strong between the creek and the river. Governor Perry has activated the National Guard and declared our county a potential disaster area so maybe they know something we dont. I think it will be about 10 hours of high wind and up to 10" of rain from what I heard last. Anyhow, life on the Gulf!

We kinda stay prepared year round but most people here wait until the last minute. But If the people in the bottom run out of booze and cigarettes they find a way across the swamp. Boogie has stocked up on dog and cat food, water and batteries so I feel better. I'd feel a lot better if she would come here to the house, but she will not leave those animals. If Edouard hits near Galveston we will get slammed for sure.

I need to go out and move all the outdoor furniture away from the house and clear the porches etc. Edouard will make landfall about midnight tonight so I have to get some work done. It's nice to not include 2 cartons of cigarettes amongst my emergency supplies! I have to go help my daddy move his vehicles. Later!

Well they are saying now it will not be here till morning.........Anyhow if it follows the projected path we will be on the bad side, (right). But they never know exactly where they will go! The good thing is it may be losing some organization. I went outside to let the dogs out and it is absolutely still. The only thing different is the tree frogs that come everynight to feed by the back porch light did not show up tonight. I hope thats not a sign. LOL! Anyhow, I think we will be okay if we dont have any tornadoes! Thanks everybody for your concern. We appreciate it! But this is a way of life for people on the gulf coast! You prepare all you can and hope and pray for the best!

We lost power this morning but they have it back on at least for now. We have no water for some reason. I called Boogie but got her machine. I am going to drive down there in a little while and check on her and invite her up to eat tonight. This was not a major storm. Lots of wind and rain but no damage. I guess I should'nt disregard the fact that the bands of rain are still circling but I think everyone is out of the woods, so to speak! If we get through the large feeder band of storms without flooding then we have it made in the shade. Thanks everyone for your concern.
