If the patch helps why don't you continue to use it for a few weeks and taper off by going down in strength as directed.  I used the patch for 6 weeks.  Read and educate yourself and be willing to go through a little discomfort to get to a better place.  Stay busy and try to find some new things to do that keeps your mind off smoking.  COPD is serious and the very best thing you can do for yourself is to quit smoking,  Best wishes to you

Do what you choose with the NRT's.

You won't build a dependency on them if you don't use them.

That being said, I used the patch until I forgot to use it in my second week.

I believed it helped but just couldn't see continuing it when I forgot to use it for two days.

I did put one in my wallet with a promise to use it rather than smoke.

Hang on tight to your quit John, you can do this one precious Smokefree Day at a time or hour, minute or even one second at a time as long as you keep moving forward and stacking up your Days WON with N.O.P.E and vigilance then you'll be successful and Smokefree!

glad to meet you John.  I too quit with the patch.  If the patch was working, don't take it off.  You'll be off the nicotine gradually.  It seemed like it was working for you, but maybe I'm wrong.  Don't rush quitting.  Have someone pick up some word search books for you.  Read as much as you can on here.  There's a lot of information.  Go to https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/newbie-quitters?sr=search&searchId=ea4712e0-11b9-4f5a-85ed...‌ and read some there.  There's some blogs on https://excommunity.becomeanex.org/groups/best-of-ex?sr=search&searchId=5df08ca4-b183-439b-bcaa-44e7...‌.  Your best tool on here is knowledge.  knowing who you are fighting and understanding it.  Once you understand it, then you can fight it.  Hang in there

Welcome to EX....many of us could not do this alone...I know I couldn't.  Without the education and support from this site.  I would have been toast, literally.  You CAN do this as long as you do the reading, accept the advice and support, and take it one day at a time.  I promise you that it gets easier.  I smoked for 47 years and will celebrate my 4 year anniversary later this month.  It's tough when you don't have the time to prepare because your health fails and the choice is taken from you.  I WANTED to quit, I had tried on my own many times but THIS time, I has no choice, much like you.  We are being given a second chance...TAKE it.

We are all here to help and to support you in any way that we can.

Welcome to the community John. I will admit to you this was the HARDEST thing I ever attempted as well. I have been quit for a year and a half. So the good news for you is that it is possible to do.  I truthfully couldn't have done it by myself either and the great thing for you is that you found a bunch of people here eagerly wanting to help you quit and see your success. Like Jennnifer said you have to be willing to go through feeling unfortable for a little while as your body adjust to you without nicotine.  Read all you can here. Learn about this addiction and then go for it.  Do know this is a journey and it will not be accomplished overnight this is a journey that takes one day at a time.  Come here blog, ask questions and holler for help  we are here for you.

botkins‌ and lauralee66‌ You don't HAVE to do this alone, that is why we are here, we ALL needed help and we all lean on each other.  You have one thing that you need to NOT do...you need to NOT smoke.  You can do anything else you want, you can watch funny movies, you can blog, you can exercise, you can start or continue a hobby, you can find things to be grateful for and write down three of them every day.  This is a journey, it is not easy, there are no short cuts, my mantra when I started was NOPE, Not One Puff Ever.  I learned so much here and met so many amazing people...I smoked for 47 years...I am coming up on my 4 year anniversary of freedom!  I have never been more proud of myself for anything I have done but I sure did not do it alone.
