Just How Serious Are You? (Please Read This BEFORE you slip)

You say you want to quit?

So...you got started and slipped. And then smoked for another 3 months? 3 Years?

A slip isn't a free ticket to unlimited smoking for as long as you want.

What kind of logic is that?

If you slip, throw them away and start over IMMEDIATELY.

The longer you smoke after that slip, the more excuses you are making

and THE HARDER IT IS TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS

Be convinced that you want health. Health takes some work.

quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your body.

You don't NEED the deadly dopamine delivery system.

just get active and the neurotransmitters will get turned on.

Sex is a great exercise, but if you continue to smoke you won't be able

to enjoy that either, Heck if you continue to smoke you will die they say

14 years sooner. I would rather breathe than smoke, any one who knows

about the dangers of smoking should be able to make the healthy choice.

cope is NOT reversible and emphysema and other cancers are in store for the still smoking person.

thanks for the post

Dale-I kind of feel this was directed toward me, but that's okay...If it wasn't directed toward me, that's okay, too. I still appreciate your honesty and need to stop kidding myself. Honesty is very important to me...not sugar-coated stuff either so bring it on! Yes, I guess I have to ask myself, "Just how serious am I?" Thanks for being there.

I have done this in the past...when I look back I am not sure why.  There are no excuses!  I am just so happy that I am finally quit and I am NOT going back!  Thank you for this post!

I was so ready to slip up last night. Had a huge argument at home and I was ready and willing to throw in the towel.... remembered this post and removed the keys from the ignition.  Thank you Dale.

About the Author
Hello, My name is Dale. I was quit 18 months before joining this site and had participated on another site during that time. I learned a lot there and brought it with me. I joined this site the first week of August 2008. I didn't pressure myself to quit. HOW I QUIT I didn't count, I didn't deny myself to get started. When I considered quitting (at a friends request to influence his brother to quit), I simply told myself to wait a little longer. No denial, nothing painful. After 4 weeks I was down to 5 cigarettes from a pack a day. The strength came from proving to myself, I didn't need to smoke because I normally would have smoked. Simple yes? I bought the patch. I forgot to put one on on the 4th day. I needed it the next day but the following week I forgot two days in a row I put one in my wallet with a promise to myself that I would slap it on and wait an hour rather than smoke. It rode in my wallet my first year. There's nothing keeping any of you from doing this. It doesn't cost a dime. This is about unlearning something you've done for a long time. The nicotine isn't the hard part. Disconnecting from the psychological pull, the memories and connected emotions is. :-) Time is the healer.
