Excited to be quitting smoking!

On my journey to health and wellness ... no longer procrastinating about quitting smoking!!!!!

I'm a 41 year old married mom, and a new business owner. In my business we inspire healthy living by educating and empowering people about their health.

I want to live it ... to be an example of good health, balance, and wellness to my children, family, friends  ...not just talk the talk ... but walk the walk!

My Official Quit Date is Monday, May 14, 2012.

I get up no later than about 6:30 am on weekdays, It's 6:40 p.m. and, Today I have smoked 5 cigarettes. Really proud of myself as I normally smoke 1 to 2 packs a day! I've been doing this ... under 10 cigarettes for a few days. I've been putting a 21mg nicotine patch on about mid-morning and taking it off in the late afternoon, as it starts to peel off & it just bothers me being there on my arm after that amount of time.

ATTENTION: YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE WITH THE PATCH ON! IT CAN BE DANGEROUS! which someone here on the site reminded me of. Thank you. Even smoking just a little while on the patch makes no sense. You are putting the poison into your body from the patch & the poison into your body from the cigarettes too!

I originally thought I would use the patch for a very short time, but I've made a personal decision to quit patch free after having a slight rash appear under my chin and on my neck the last couple of days, and due to the fact that what I have been learning on my journey to health and wellness ... These things are being reinforced, confirmed ... I am being reminded in various ways ... both subtle and obvious!

Drinking lots of water ... at least 1/2 my body weight in ounces per day.

Staying with my nutritious diet of mostly plant-based whole foods. Keeping handy fresh, raw veggies and fruits to grab when I get that psychological thing going where I feel I need to grab that cigarette & put it in my mouth. Taking snacks & water with me in a shoulder bag on the road & whereever I go.

Started taking my Juice Plus+ yesterday, and will continue to take it daily.

Need to get going again on the exercise... Releasing those good chemicals in the brain! 30 minutes a day! Exercise of my choice, any exercise is better than no exercise!

Remembering to get adequate rest & sleep .... Took a day today at home to get some things done at my home office, rested & relaxed in between, got to take a nap today, which I really needed!

Still want to re-write my list of reasons for quitting and put a copy on my refrigerator, on my desk, in my vehicle, etc., etc. ... Will do tonight or tomorrow morning!

So ... That's enough for now. Please feel free to comment. I welcome honest, encouraging, feedback!

Ephesians 4:15

Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

"But speaking the truth in love - Margin, "being sincere." The translation in the text is correct - literally, "truthing in love" - ἀληθεύοντες alētheuontes. Two things are here to be noted:

(1) The truth is "to be spoken" - the simple, unvarnished truth. This is the way to avoid error, and this is the way to preserve others from error. In opposition to all trick, and art, and cunning, and fraud, and deception, Christians are to speak the simple truth, and nothing but the truth. Every statement which they make should be unvarnished truth; every promise which they make should be true; every representation which they make of the sentiments of others should he simple truth. "Truth is the representation of things as they are;" and there is no virtue that is more valuable in a Christian than the love of simple truth.

(2) the second thing is, that the truth should be spoken "in love." There are other ways of speaking truth. It is sometimes spoken in a harsh, crabby, sour manner, which does nothing but disgust and offend When we state truth to others, it should he with love to their souls, and with a sincere desire to do them good. When we admonish a brother of his faults, it should not be in a harsh and unfeeling manner, but in love. Where a minister pronounces the awful truth of God about depravity, death, the judgment, and future woe, it should be in love. It should not be done in a harsh and repulsive manner; it should not he done as if he rejoiced that people were in danger of hell, or as if he would like to pass the final sentence; it should not be with indifference, or in a tone of superiority. And in like manner, if we go to convince one who is in error, we should approach him in love. We should not dogmatize, or denounce, or deal out anathemas. Such things only repel. "He has done about half his work in convincing another of error who has first convinced him that he loves him;" and if he does not do that, he may argue to the hour of his death and make no progress in convincing him.

May grow up into him - Into Christ; that is, to the stature of a complete man in him."

Welcome Laura and Congrats on your decision to quit and the work you have done so far.  It sounds like you have done a lot of the preperation already.  Have you been reading the blogs or the Allan Carr book?  It can't hurt.  And it's best to be overly prepared then the other way.  I look forward to hearing more from you.  My Sister has just recently opened up a business.  I salute you for doing this kindof all at once.  Protect Your Quit Laura.

I'm no longer using the patch, so I'm good there, but

Thank You for the comment, Nancy!  🙂 ... That needs to be out there, especially for those of us who are quitting & think we can manage using the patch while smoking just a few cigarettes!

THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!

DO NOT SMOKE WHILE USING THE PATCH!

IT IS DANGEROUS!

YOU CAN OVERDOSE ON NICOTINE!

IT CAN KILL YOU!

Thanks for the Love!

Good Luck on Quitting!!  I think if you are committed enough it will work.  I used the patch fully for my quit and it was a big help.  First it helped because I read the directions and was afraid to smoke with it and second because it took away the craving for nicotine, so I just had to deal with the habit part. Still had some craving but not as bad as no nicotine.

I would say keep the patch handy and if it gets too bad use that and not a cig. That way you can get relief and protect your quit. Well whatever works for you is good as long as you keep to it.  Sounds like you have a good chance of succeeding.  Lots of people here to help too.
