Into day 5

Into day 5 and have had horrible urges all afternoon.  I'm afraid to leave my house.  No cigarettes here but I don't trust myself not to buy some.  Urges are very strong.  I've drank cold water, taken deep breathes, munched on carrots, tried to read.  Nothing is working right now.  I feel horrible.

Are you quitting cold turkey???

Yes, Linda.  I read Allen Carr's Easyway and thought I would try it without NRTs.  I've been coping with the urges but today has been especially rough.

You can do it without NRT's - and the nicotine is already out of your system.  Try going for a walk?  Tried chocolate? Tried playing a computer game?  I played Angry Birds for HOURS when I first quit.  You have to find somethingn to take your mind off the craves --- they really only last a few minutes, so if you can divert yourself, they will be over shortly.  String licorice also worked for me.

Read some more of Allen Carr; post and read here - nonstop if you need to!

But don't give in!  You've got FIVE days under your belt that you don't want to repeat, do you???????

You may need to do something to take your mind off of the whole thing. Sometimes the more we are trying to avoid a subject the more loud it gets so to speak. How about a nice bubble bath and mani/pedi? Reward yourself - you deserve it! Listen to some music you love. You can do this.

You will get through today. You are doing the right things including blogging about it. I bet you'll be surprised at what tomorrow brings after a well deserved nights sleep.

Remember to blog for "HELP" should you be there. No excuses because someone will be here to help you if not lots of people. Take care!

Thanks for the tips everyone.  I tried the Halls mentholatum drops (lemon) and it is helping.  I think I've made it through and that was a very strong urge.  Whew!  Hope I don't get many more like that!

Tomorrow is another day - and think how PROUD you will be that you succeeded today!

You can do this; and you have proven it today!

The urge finally went away.  Took a very long time.  Thanks everyone.  So glad I can come here to sound off and get help and support from those who know what I'm going through!  🙂

Hi Marti, Glad you made it through. This addiction is a tricky one and we need to be better at the trickery. Prepare yourself NOW in case this happens again, I found that each urge I had and went through made me stronger for the next. Sometimes they sneak up on you, this is why we must always be prepared. Try laughing at them, loud and hard. I talked aaaaaaaaaaaalot and real fast too. Funny because I knew it and I was determined to succeed. Everyday I want to succeed!

Welcome Marti- I quit the same way you're doing it -no NRT's. It will get better-promise (day 19 for me). I found strong flavors to help: really sour candy, olives, sunflower seeds. I also get the more sour Italian icees like lemon-not high in calories and take more time than a craving can last to eat! Also brushing your teeth works! You are definately in the right place-if you are determined you will succeed!

Hi Marti, Hang in there. Try repeating to yourself NOPE !!!!! (NOT ONE PUFF EVER) and I   also like  say SMOKING IS NOT AN OPTION. Say them out loud, say them to yourself but just keep saying them. Someome said to try sucking on a lemon. The sour flavor will take away your urages.
