INDEPENDENCE BONFIRE 2012

Opening July-4-2012

Closing------???????? When we’re DONE!

Big Old Fire

Simple instructions for the bonfire:

  1. Using your quit counter or mathematics find/calculate the number of un-smoked cigarettes you have totaled since quitting
  2.
  3. Come to the bonfire bringing said number from instruction 1 with you
  4.
  5. Care fully approach the massive blaze and throw all of those un-smoked killers into the fire by answering the BLOG with whatever dedication note you may wish to type. (note: remembering those that have died from smoking related illness is quite appropriate at this time…try to reflect on the reality of this addiction)
  6.
  7. In your post include the number of un-smoked cigarettes for you and friends that may not be able to attend (this is adding them to the bonfire)
  8.
  9. Mingle, find some food, stop by one of the coolers, get involved any way you like BUT NO SMOKING…. (the only thing allowed to smoke IS THE FIRE)
  10.
  11. And that my friends…….IS the bonfire

NOW CELEBRATE YOUR

INDEPENDENCE!

We’re looking to get 1,000,000 un-smoked cancer sticks dumped onto this fire

Bring them and dump them in here (don’t forget to post your numbers)

I’ll add them up…..let’s see how many we can get

Tell everyone to come and join us!

Happy Independence Bonfire

Freedom is a choice

Independence is PRICELESS!

For Future Reference I've created a BONFIRE group, anyone interested in being automatically invited to these shindigs please join the group, which will make announcing Bonfires to many people at the same time MUCH easier. Regardless though everyone is welcome to come and burn those nasty un-smoked cigarettes here and there, but I'll bet you have to join the group to post......... 🙂

Tompir9fan.  Now that's funny.

Where is Dale?  Has he been to the party today?  I wanted to tell him I went to the 4th of July party today and did not drink anything stronger than lemonade.  Old smoking buddy was there and I was too afraid I would bum one from him if I had a beer.  So, no cigarette butts in the real campfire from me today!  That felt soooooo good!

I turn into a pumpkin at Midnight, so good night to you all.

My 7 month anniversary turned out to be quite memorable.

Papa Jim - Great job on the fire.  Thanks for the invite.

Prayers for Jo Jo, and a few other important folks, like my Dad, a 88 year old WWll vet, who fought for our freedom ( and for all my best friends here at EX who helped me to save my life)  and then I'm off to bed.

If your young enough and so inclined, PARTY ON!

Tossing in my 714.   So you can make that 1,153,775 glorious bits of bonfire.

which, by the way, is 57,689 packs.  Which, at the going rate around here,

equals $415, 359.

JonesCarpeDiem

I am certainly glad everyone here set a good example with the drinking of alcohol at this bonfire. I wouldn't want any new quitters to have gotten the wrong impression. LOL

papajim

I know elders getting hammered........BUT NO SMOKING! Except for the fire which has burned up well over 1.2 million unsmoked nasties! I'm so proud of you all!

G, Tommy,...........see ya at the meetings! Hah.....SMOKE FREE!

Dakota_Posse
Member

Now, now.....don't be getting on Tommy's back.....he and Giulia had a good time and they didn't do anything they shouldn't......high FIVES to both of you!!!!!

Besides, if you are committed to your quit....alcohol is not going to matter.....I'm living proof of that - although I don't drink near the amount in real life as I do in my 3D world!  But, I'm dedicated in both worlds to NOT smoking!!!!!

Tommy, get me a beer....I'm thirsty!!!!!

Now THAT's a glass!!!!LOL!

maggie_8-1-2010

Wow...I just reviewed the video of this party and man....what a party it was/is! Hats off to all who made it fun and a special thank you to our wonderful host, Papa Jim!

Makes me proud to call this place my second home! Hugs to all!

Giulia

Thanks for comming to our defense Cindy.  lol   That's right, if you're committed to your quit, you are able to drink alcohol.  Sometimes.  Old timers have had experience with that and know the dangers.  Actually, we're way over the dangers because we're far past the craving stage.  WAY PAST it.   But alcohol is the biggest quit killer I know when you're in the first six months of your quit.  Maybe even longer.  Certainly in the very beginning of it.   If you are still thinking about cigarettes, however much time has passed, then you are still vulnerable and have to be extra careful when drinking.  And THAT is no joke.

Meetings?  What meetings?  Only meetings I know are those of the mind.....  like we have on here.  (Most of the time!  lol)

pir8fan

Thanks Cindy! Here is a cold beer for you! I will join you as soon as i am done ducking the proverbial "First Stones"!img alt="" src="" />

Love you G!

papajim

What a blast! Awesome.....thanks to ALL of you......Tommy and G...of course I'm just kidding.......meetings are a pain in the behind! We don't need no stinking meetings! 🙂

On the serious side......anything that serves as a trigger for your smoking should be avoided in favor of maintaining your quit..alcohol or whatever that may be and I mean it.

Stay safe...stay KEWL.....and most imprtantly stay SMOKE FREE.

pir8fan
Member

Thanks Jim! I knew that YOU were just kidding! And of course alcohol can be a very strong trigger! For that matter so can food or many other substances! We can not eliminate all of the triggers in our lives! Nor should we! Eventually they all have to be faced! Alcohol is a trigger we can avoid for a while, but unless we are willing to give it up completely, sooner or later it must be faced!

It is my belief that the cyberdrinking, and cyberdrunk roles that my good friend Giulia played at the fire mimic real life! In a gathering of that size, when alcohol is involved, it is inevitable that someone will drink too much! It was a stark reminder of what can happen! And it was fun!

To make my point clear (and I think I can speak for Giulia here as well). What we did was for amusment only! Neither of us condone any activity that would encourage someone to jeopardize their quit! Ever! I do not believe that most people who see someone wasted like that think "Wow, I wish I was looking that foolish!" People are more likely to laugh! Laughing is good!

However, if there is someone who's entire life is wrapped up in finding fault with anyone who does, or says, anything that does not ape their opinions, I am sorry that you are offened! And I hope you get over it!

papajim
Member

I know that......and I was playing along with it too..........LMFAO! I thought it was hilarious but.....clarification is also a good thing as the cyber world is so greatly limited in the information that can be transferred while trying to communicate, a prime example of this is an emotional conversation via e-mail (BAD IDEA).

No matter though, it was a hell of a party and we sure did burn a ton of unsmoked sicharettes in the bonfire....we shall......assuming y'all want to.......DO IT AGAIN.

pir8fan
Member

I think I speak for most of us when I say that we definately want to "DO IT AGAIN"!

Please forgive me for spinning into negative territory at the end! You threw a great party and deserved better from me! Thank you for all your work on this and at the site! Tommy
