I tried to put back on an oven door and it didn't go well

So, here I am during my first week of my quit and decided that it would be a good idea to remove my oven door to clean the entire oven. The problem is, nobody told me how FRUSTRATING it is to try and get that oven door back on!

Try as I might, I just couldn't get those two hinges at the bottom to get back into the slots.

I spent well over an hour trying to do this yesterday and noticed that with each passing minute, my stress level increased massively. By the end of the process, I was crawling out of my skin and truly wanting to smoke. I ended up saying SCREW IT and propped up the oven door on a wall. It has been there ever since. This morning, maintenance will be coming by to put it back on.

The lesson? During that first week or two of a quit, DON'T take on super stressful tasks.

To cope yesterday, I ended up leaving my home and doing 30 minutes of cardio in our building's gym. I am so glad that I did because I came back with a fresh perspective.

Best,

John

About the Author
I began my relationship with cigs around the age of 16. Now at 52, I've decided that relationship has been caustic, unhealthy and life robbing. In 2010, I had actually stopped smoking for an entire year. And then one day I made the mistake of thinking I can have "just one". Well, we all know what happens next. I am choosing the approach of one day at a time. For me, this means not focusing on tomorrow and not looking back. Instead, it's all about today - because today is a gift. Each morning, I will be writing something to be happy about in my gratitude journal. My coping strategies include coming here for support, engaging in daily exercise, changing familiar patterns, and engaging in heavy self-care. I can only focus on today with this addiction and I've come to accept that. I'm sending positive energy your way.
