I screwed up at six weeks.

Damn. I got caught off guard, got bored, got tipsy, and the IMPULSIVITY took over. I walked right up to my roommate and asked for a cigarette. And smoked it. Lke that. After having no real issues since quitting. What happened? I do think the Full Moon had something to do with it, but that's only part of it. I knew I would smoke again. And did. So, I have to start over. The six weeks is worth nothing now? Any words of wisdom are welcome.

You knew you would smoke again?? Why? Dont you want to quit? Quit and never take a puff. Always think twice. There have been times when I want to smoke on implulse. Then, I talk myself down in my head. I am not going to allow cigarettes to control my life, & ultimately decide how I live my life, and how I die.

There's a little game you can play for the first couple of days where you just quit for the next hour or the next day. Once you get to two weeks, though, you are pretty much finished if you "know you are going to smoke again". If you know you are going to smoke, then you are relying on nothing but willpower and it is almost impossible to quit using willpower. If willpower worked, we'd all just smoke two a day and not worry about it.

The key to successful long term quitting is to invest the effort to change the way you think about smoking -- re-brainwash yourself, if you like. Instead of feeling like you are "giving up" something, you want to be overjoyed at the thought actually cutting loose that ball 'n chain and gaining a new life that is better in every way. It still takes time, but that's how you lose the desire to smoke.

My advice: As you contemplate where you stand, spend some time reading and watching Allen Carr. You can find some links in my "Quitting Links" blog at my page (click the lobster). He does a masterful job of blowing the myths of smoking to smithereens.

just try to not smoke today... dont give tomorrow a thought... just worry about today... before you know it you will put together another 6 days then 6 weeks and then 6 months and then 6 years
