Hi! I'm new here........looking for some support. I joined a stop smoking class at my local hospital on Monday and have just started taking Chantix. I'm 51 years old and have smoked sense I was 17. I am SICK of it!!!!! I've had a couple of serious medical problems over the years and according to the doctors they were caused by smoking........no other explanation but the stupid ciggaretes. I even had a heart attack and smoked in the car on the way to the hospital! How crazy is that? I am determinded that September will be the month that I become free from this horribel addiction forever! Reading your posts have really given me incouragement.......I know I can do this!!

Thanks for being here!

Hi Becky,

You are absolutely correct...this too shall pass.  I joined this site for support when I quit smoking and have had nothing but amazing support, understanding, encouragement, and caring since.  These folks helped me through the worst of it, and we will help you too!

Congrats on the decision to quit!  You can do this!

You totally can do this.  I took a class at my local hospital as well.  It is what helped me quit the last time.  Granted I stupidly started smoking again but I made it a long time and felt amazing.  I am back here for the support of these amazing people and to help anyone that I can as I know how amazing it is to quit and how great you will feel!!!  You got this Becky!!

Right on. I'm 52 and started smoked when I was 12. I have tried various quits over the years and this time I am doing Chantix. Followed directions and quit on day 8. That was over three weeks ago. It really is a matter of committment no matter how you quit. Once you get by the first week it becomes bearable, then doable. You can do this. We are here to help and support you. Check in often read wht others are doing and dealing with, post blogs let us know how you are doing and just hang in there. Congratulations on your quit.

Hi Becky

I quit in January right before I turned fifty. I thought I was having a smoking related illness but it turned out to be nothing big. I decided it was time to quit anyway. I had tried so many times though to no avail but the help on this sight and a change of mindset made this quit so much different.  It was suggested I read Allen Carr’s quit smoking the easy way.  I downloaded it for free and the combination of all these tools made quitting a success. All the best to you my friend. http://digg.com/news/story/Allen_Carr_s_Easy_Way_To_Stop_Smoking_Download_free_PDF

Hi Becky. You've come to the right place. I didn't think I could do it, but with the help of this site and all the speacial, caring people here, I'am almost 250 days quit. I smoked for 30+ years. Make up your mind that you are no longer a smoker and under NO circumstances, never have another puff!  N.O.P.E.  Not one puff ever.  Sound scary? Its not. Be proud of your quit. You CAN do it!

Hello, and WELCOME Becky! Yes, you can do this! Having a good understanding of nicotine addiction and having a Great Positive Attitude are key to SUCCESS! Read Allen Carr and read these: http://www.whyquit.com http://    quitsmokingonline.com/   They're great and give you a new perspective about smoking and quitting!

CONGRATULATIONS Becky!   You have made a decision that is going to change your life....and it will be SOOOOO much better....believe me!

I too used Chantix in my quit.  I followed the directions....and I quit on the 8th day of being on Chantix.  I gotta tell ya...I WANTED to quit before the 8th day because cigarettes tasted like crap at about day 5-6.  But I practically made myself smoke the last two days, and when I threw everything in the garbage on day 8 I was READY!!!

With the help of Allen Carr's book, "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking", I KNEW I was going to take back control of my life and I would NEVER let a cigarette control me again!  The scariest part of the whole quit was making the decision to quit!  Don't be afraid of quitting...embrace it and know that you WILL do it!

Read, read, read.....(the link to Allen Carr's book is up above in Mike's comment).  Keep us updated and let us know how you feel after you've been on the Chantix for about 5 or 6 days....you CAN do this and we'll help!
