That doesn't sound stupid at all, quitting can bring up some scary thoughts.

That's why educating yourself about the addiction is so important.

Once you know what you are dealing with, alot of things start to make sense.

There is so much information here to help you,so please start reading - and then read some more!

Go to the Home page and get started.....

(someone told me a couple years ago that you lose a whole bunch of weight when you have cancer - might sound harsh but it is something to think about)

Glad you are here - stick around and please post often and let us know how it's going,

We all understand, we've been there!

Just get right back on track.  Stopping at one puff means you realized you really didn't want to smoke.  Have a plan for those stressful times at work.  They're going to happen again.   What can you do instead?   Weight gain is a common fear--search posts about gaining weight!

Hi hon...and donot beat yourself up...look you found it did nothing for you and threw it out...I bet it didn’t help the stressful work day in the least...you are back on track and that’s what is important...shake the dust off and reinforce your quit plan and keep it going...Happy Monday ~ Colleen 147 DOF

Congratulations on having the courage to come here and talk about what is happening with your "slip".  I call it a slip because you are early on in your quit and you probably have not developed the tools of NOPE.  I would suggest that you take this EXperience and learn from it. What will I do the next time this happens?  We will have stresses in life, they don't stop when we quit smoking.  The stresses may seem greater because we have been led to believe that smoking relieves stress. Quite frankly it is the opposite.  It is how we respond to the stresses that will make a difference in our quit. I often told my self over and over again. literally that no matter what is happening, I will not smoke.  Self-talk will help in those times of stress.  Breathing is with you, Take deep breathes to calm yourself.   Be prepared for those times.  Prepare a tool kit.  Take the option to smoke completely off the table.  It is no longer an option.  Think "what would a nonsmoker do"?  We have to deprogram the brainwashing that we have been dealing with.  Say "I don't do that anymore".  Make a commitment to never touch a cigarette, lighter, anything associated with smoking.  Keep them away from your face.  You have to be fierce and mean it.  You can do this. Quitting is easy, staying quit is the work. Let's get busy.  Come here when you are having a problem BEFORE you smoke.  Have someone you can call when you are having a hard time. Stay close, hang tough, never give in never give up. THE STRESS TRAP

So happy it was only one puff - you proved something important to yourself, too.  Didn't do one thing to help with the stress, did it?

NOW make a plan what you will do instead the next time you're stressed.  Might you take a break from the place for a minute or two, count backwards from 1,000, take slow/deep breaths - going slower and deeper with each, or maybe go for a quick walk around the floor or building, or find a quiet spot and march in place?  Have a got to BEFORE the next time!

Carry on!

Lesson learned it sounds like. Good for you. It's possible you might gain some weight for a while, but statistics show that it comes off down the road and there is a lot you can do to moderate weight gain (if any). First things first, stay strong in your quit plan one day at a time. Give your quit the chance it deserves.

You CAN do this and we all want very much for you to succeed.  Please know that and please reach out to us before you ask anyone for a cigarette.  Smoking really does not relieve stress, it creates it.

Congratulations on coming here right away, absolutely do not beat yourself up.  You've gotten some great advice above, please take what you can use.
