As I sit here just smoked my last cigarette I start to think, "should I buy another pack." I am so glad that today I decided to visit this site. Even though I chose my quit to be on the 14th I keep thinking that I am justifying smoking if I don't quit now. I keep thinking that I am making excuses for myself. But, when it comes down to it, I want to get the patch and I don't get paid until Tuesday and I want a date that I know will be my last day of smoking, I have never done that before. I have just tried quitting on my own and all of a sudden. That was hard. So, Day one of the EX steps is going great, I am excited to try the ways to change triggers. Happy quitting to all of you it's time for a healthier life!

I quit with the Ex plan and it worked for me. I didn't rush quitting, but followed a plan. I do better that way (personally). I think there are alot of ways to quit. The main thing is....to quit! Do what you know will work, try everything, do everything to ensure that once you quit you will never go back to smoking. If that is today-great- if that is the 14th- great. What matters most is not the day- but your commitment. You can do this!

Sometimes you have to just look at the day ahead. If you finish a cigarette this afternoon and don't feel like having one tonight, then you don't. And tomorrow if you wake up and don't want a cigarette until noon than you don't smoke one until then. Just take it one day at a time.

You will make yourself crazy thinking about a week, month or year from now. Smoking 10 cigs today instead of your usual 20 is a step in the right direction. Making yourself wait 10 minutes to smoke after a craving is how you begin learning to cope.

I woke up one morning after a bad night of coughing and just didn't want one. And I didn't want one the next day. 5 weeks later, I still don't want one.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Learn about your addiction. Find out what your triggers are. The best way to quit is to have a good honest understanding of your addiction.

It will happen for you. Just stay positive and keep trying to quit—eventually it will work.

I agree with richj.....follow your instincts. I got scared by chest pains and thought I was having a heart attack only to find out that I was having esophogial spasms. Scared the crap out of me...and that's when I quit. Keep on with not wanting a cigarette...that's what's getting me through every day.....

I always knew I was going to quit, it was just a manner of when. I had been thinking about it for quite sometime - put a date in place, and that day came and went. The day I had originally planned to quit I went and bought a pack, bought a pack the next day, and the day after that. I started to feel quilty. I knew that was crazy, and set the quit date for 2 weeks later - figuring it was more realistic. I was on a mission but; not one I knew at that time if I would pass or fail. I was all over the map with my emotions, and the feeling of failure. When I talked to my Doctor, my planned quit date was in my sites (a little better then a week away). Funny thing happened the day after I spoke to my Doctor....I quit smoking. That was May 6th, and here it is June already,,,come Tuesday, I will be a month free of smoking.... I will not let this addiction beat me....I will beat the addiction as I am bound, bent and determined!
