i really need to quit smoking but i am so afraid i will fail, plus i know there is so much out there to help you quit but it cost so much money.  what these people dont understand is that its easier for me to get $5.00 for smoke then coming up with something like $140 all at once. They complain about smokers but they want to make all  the money and make it diffucult for you to quit.

It has been 24-hours since i had a cigarette.  I am using lozenges.  You can get them at the drugstore for about $40.  This is extremely difficult but worth it.  If I can stop for even one day, anyone can.  I plan to keep on going now.  Listen to these people on this site, they know what they are talking about.  They gave me info on a website whyquit.com (I think).  I have found that very helpful.  think of all of the money you will save in the end..........lots $$$.

Hi, I don't know what state you are in but in many states they are giving people who want to quit NRT's and/or meds. Alot of people on here have quit cold turkey. I am not one of them but there are many! Try reading some of the blogs here. You can go to the top in the SEARCH box and type in hwc or jonescarp or Thomas or Brenda or James. They have alot of info on their blogs and are long time exers.

Hello Dennis. Welcome!  There are those that would take another opinion that just putting the smokes down doesn't cost a thing.  Check out  http://quitsmokingonline.com/   It has a great deal of information about the nicotine addiction and offers a very positive approach towards quitting. The program is free, just as this one is. There is also a book online by Allen Carr called The Easy Way that many found useful. f it weren't fear most of us would have quit years ago. Learn about the fear and how to take back control of your life!  Come here often and let us know how you are doing Dennis! Glad you are here!

when you get antsy, try to step back and look and see what really drives the anxiety.

I used the 1st step patch for my first two weeks and I realized I could cope with the emotional memories that keep us trapped

I know exactly what you mean.  I'm a single mother of 3.  Live from check to check.  I finally came up with the $ for Chantix a while back, didn't quit.  But when I really decided it was something Ihad to do or die young and too early, There was no need for the meds or gun or stuff.  Straight fear and a strong dose of reality goes a lvery long way.

It took me a long while to finally jump into the deep end and actually STOP smoking.  Fear of withdrawls kept me smoking.  There was nothing to fear. It is never as bad as our imagination. Not everyone has adverse reactions.  You won't know until you try it.  72 hours - and all the nicotine is out of your system.   3 days, that's it.  Try it.  The rest is mental.  Not always easy mental - but if you can make it 3 days with out smoking, you most likely can make it forever.   But you won't know unless you do it.  Like the old tennis shoe commercials from Nike "just do it"

That fear is the hardest part....once you get past that and make the commitment to quit - it will all be uphill. As Maggie mentioned, I also really love www.quitsmokingonline.com

It is a free on line course. Plus - be sure to keep hanging out here.

Try one hour at a time and you may find that your fear was greater than any actual withdrawl symptoms. They really aren't that bad and you won't die from withdrawals,,just keep a positive attitude and you may see what I am saying. Try it, you'll like it 🙂

Best of Luck To You! Stay in touch here, you definitely came to the best place for support!!

OK well i have downloaded a cigarette counter on my iphone, so i am going to try and get an accurate count, and i am then going to start trying to get myself motivated to set a date.  Is there any other iphone apps that might help out.

also i am going to see if there is any stop smoking studies in my area....

Thanks again its nice being around people that have the same problems... just this little blog has helped me some.  I am getting more and more determined to stop and set that date….
