To quit smoking, you have to believe that you can quit and believe that your life as an ex-smoker will be much better than your life dragging around the ball n' chain of nictotine addiciton every waking moment of your life. Education is the key, to motivate you and to help you outsmart your nicotine addiction.

Here are some links to discussions here that will lead you to some education materials that have helped many of us quit and stay quit. Read the first one to get you started. Then, come back ask questions, and we'll go from there.

Just one practical tip. You'll never get through the first couple days of a quit if you have cigarettes in your house, car, office, or pocketbook.

Hi
You have to be ready to quit. Read and learn from others and find something else to do with your hands. I just decided that smoking was no longer going to be an option. So I had to learn to deal with out a smoke. You can do it you just have to be ready. Good Luck!

You have to want to be a nonsmoker more than you want to be a smoker (IN MY OPINION) there are just way too many people who say they want to quit smoking but don't. The reason they don't is because they want to quit smoking but they do not want to give up the cigarettes to do it.You have to learn to live without a cigarette, please read an follow what hwc gave you. Otherwise you will be putting yourself through hell try after try after try. This is possible! I smoked for 37 years and thought I would never last a day without a cigarette. But once I did, I was amazed at what I learned and how bad just one cigarette can be. You can do this!

my advice do what HWC said, and also Sandra hit it on the head. Remember a successful quit is because you have figured out this really is a mind thing. The physical part goes pretty quick, but mentally...well that is the challenge and you have to get yourself through reading and understanding to see that no matter what smoking is no longer an option, ever:) I smoked for 38 years and I did it, so can you:)
