I AM 238 DAYS SMOKE-FREE ( and the newest game of TRIVIA has been posted)

Well, another week has passed and I am seven days further into my quit!

Back on Day One of this leg of my quit -- August 7, 2021 -- I was not sure how long I would stick to my resolve to stop smoking cigarettes.

I was fresh off another relapse and not convinced that even my serious health issues would be enough to get me back on track....... (That's how addiction screws up your thinking.)

But, here I am :  238 days free.

One thing that seems to propel me onward is my weekly posting of the Trivia game. It is something I need to show up for PLUS it carries the unspoken obligation to publicly "fess up" about how I am doing with my quit.

(BTW if you want to ply this week's Trivia game, simply click here and go directly to the site TRIVIA-GAME-for-05-03-2022 )

So, anyway, when the game is on its annual hiatus / AKA my "vacation" during the months of July and August, I will still be showing up every week to share how things are progressing with my quit as I will lean on this to keep me clean and honest.

Regarding the posting of those Trivia games, I have incorporated lessons I have learned over the past 20 plus years of my informal exposure to "Computer Land."

I am of the age where computer science was not included in the school curriculum and when even college classroom notes were done by hand. And the chalkboard -- accompanied by the instructor's voice --  was the major non-computerized audio-visual tool.

In essence, I am not even one tad "techy."

In fact, it wasn't until the mid 1990's that computers snuck into my work life. And threatened to nip a new profession in the bud. You see, during my interview, no one mentioned the necessity for computer skills nor even posed the question if I even owned such abilities. At that period in history it was apparently just assumed that everyone knew how to use computers.

What saved me from my shortest period of employment was a self-organized weekend educational marathon based on Windows for Dummies and the favor of two supportive friends who were computer-literate. And what kept me moving forward was the ongoing direction of a caring co-worker.

Since that time, I have been faced with the task of learning at least half a dozen new computerized programs and various applications,  and found ALL of them to be confusing, overwhelming, frustrating and fully mind-boggling. So much so, in fact, that I'd become a nervous wreck...... ( Talk about triggers for chain-smoking.)

No matter how much new technical information I may learn, the sad truth remains: No matter how many new technical "tricks" I may master, I am not nor will I ever become a tech-savvy person.  According to the internet a technically trained person is all that I am NOT (nor will ever be):

6-habits-tech-savvy-students

  • They know how to code. ...
  • They recognize their digital footprints. ...
  • They understand the importance of giving credit. ...
  • They have excellent information literacy skills. ...
  • They have digital marketing skills. ...
  • They are digital leaders.

SAY WHAT?? (The only thing I know how to do on this list is to give credit to those who have kept me limping along.)

And so, this all leads to the question of how in the heck did I lose the original Trivia Daily post on ingredients that included the explanation of the correct answer of "Which cooking measurement is the largest ?

Well, while I have learned enough over the years to know how to set up a separate file to house my collection of Trivia questions (thanks to the direction of others), I have not learned how to curb my tendencies to be in a rush and to accidentally click on the delete button when I meant to choose the backwards arrow to return the selection to its master file.

And I have not (yet) learned the trick of how to retrieve deleted information. (Nor may I ever.)

And, so goes the story of my non-tech - savvy life.

Prior to my first quitting on 8/25/2019, I was a heavy smoker for over 60 years. That time, I quit due to health concerns regarding clogged arteries to my brain. Tar deposits from cigarettes were making the situation worse. I had become a prime candidate for a stroke and required surgery to clean out my left carotid artery. I have relapsed 4X since that quit, the last one being on 05.15.2022. ( At one point in all of this madness, I had been quit for 1.5 years). Then on 9/7/2021 I began my recent eight month quit before my current relapse. I am in the process of planning a return to the non-smoking life. After more than 2 weeks of smoking, wheezing and coughing and being short of breath, I have set my new quit date of June 1, 2022 as the beginning of my forever quit. I am done with this madness!! God is good.
