Cunning, baffling, and powerful." This is how the addiction to alcohol is described in the book, Alcoholics Anonymous. Its equally true of smoking. Think about it I smoked for years knowing it would kill me. I twisted my thinking into the most ridiculous distortions to justify my smoking- and came to believe those distortions.

I tried repeatedly to stop smoking and could not-and Im not a stupid person. Respecting your opponet is one of the first rules of stategy. What has enabled me to succeed this time is that Ive developed a deep respect for the power of this addiction. Ive stopped expecting and easy cure. Ive become willing to work hard and struggle for recovery. Ihave made it my number one priority. p 68 Out of Ashes by Peter/ Peggy Holmes

My copy of "Out of the Ashes" arrives this coming Thursday, and I'm going to really enjoy carrying it with me through No Man's Land. Thanks, Tasha!

Have to get that book!!! You are so right to respect/know the opponent. I have developed such a great admiration for recovering alcholics now. It's the same if not even worse for smokers.
