I can't believe it..Michael actually came up with the quit date!!

Hi everyone,

So I am Jennifer or Jenn and I have been a smoker since I was 17 and I am 41 now. Micahel since he was 14 and he is now 47. So that is combined years of 57 years!! I have quit 3 times 2 when I was pregnant and once durring boot camp and AIT. I don't count the 2 weeks years ago because soon as hubby came back fro filed I started smoking again.

So he has tried everything, hypnosis, patch, cold turkey and it seems to be the medicine that works for him. We both started cutting down about 2 months ago, we stopped smoking in the house about 6 months before that. We haven't told very many people because we don't want the questions or the pressure. Our only child left at home is the only one in the family that knows our quit date. I haven't pressured him at all it has never worked. He came up with the idea to quit asked docs at VA for meds I then got the gum and have been ready ever since. But I still did not pressure him for a quit date.

THAT HAS WORKED because he then said "ok the only trigger I still have is driving" so the weekend of Valentines day will be best. IT is a 3 DAY weekend!!

My reaction was "PERFECT honey Valentines day WEEKEND ?" wonderful now we have a aniversary date for this.

Only thing is guys/gals I am nervous because he is on meds he is actually doing better at home than I am. I sure hope the GUM will help and I hope it won't taste tooo bad.

I will need everyones help. Plus you will notice Michael isn't on here YET well he isn't into this stuff much and just thinks he can do without it. SOOOooo I will be on this site for both of us!!

Please pray for us!! Tomorrow we become EXs!

JENN!!

Best of luck to you both!!! You seem to have a quit plan in place and that's so important - even a simple plan is better than no plan at all. Nicotine addiction is very cunning will do ANYTHING not to lose you as a customer (more like a victim) and you need to stay aware of that at all times. Be kind to yourself through this journey. Pamper yourself - take a hot bath, try to be relaxed. It is tough but many of us have made it and so can both of you. My best wishes to you!

Prepare not to tear into each other over the addiction. It can be very challenging with the interplay of the two quits at once with neither person feeling the support of the other. Get out, move around or work out but be prepared to take time outs to cool off if things get too overloaded! In the end both quitters will be better for it, that is for sure. The returning gifts of health and peace will benefit you both in giving you each back...longer life together!

Happy VD ! Good Luck!

I really can't believe Michael and I are on DAY 6!! Last night we were talking about the people who know we have quit and how it has been so good to have such positive energy. Yesterday they ladies at his work asked him what he did for Valentines day and he said "my wife and I quit smoking that was our gift to each other." Now that was a big awww for me because he sounded like we was so proud and ahppy about how we are doing this together. He should be proud he has never quit before and he is doing soooo well. Any way ppl at work then said that they did notice he wasn't going outside and he said yeah well I didn't go out alot already because we were cutting down to prepare.

It is just awesome for him to verbablize all that we have been working for. The only downer here is I think we are both starting to feel the physical part of quiting. I feel sick to my stomache and have lots of nasal congestion. He has started to cough a little more and has a sore throat.

So pray for us that we can get threw this yucky stuff. Does anyone know how long this kind of physical stuff goes on. What did you guys experience? or experienceing!!
