How did you quit?  I quit with nrt lozenge 4 mg and patches 21mg. It was tough quitting lozenges but im completely nicotine free now for 30 days. I tried chantix didn’t do anything for me.

I’ve heard cold turkey has best quit rates. I couldn’t have quit without lozenges

Hi @Patrick1234 years ago I tried the Nicorette gum and it made me very sick…I couldn’t be on any Nicotine replacements due to my system.  (It would raise my Bp and/or gave me a skin reaction)…this time I quit with Ex’s and cold turkey…and here I am quit for 1390 days…

I look forward to reading others reply’s.

Wishing you a great evening.

@Patrick1234 There is research that more quitters are more successful using an aid, but there are some here that only believe in cold turkey.   Whatever works for someone to be successful is what maters so ignore the naysayers.   I used Welbutrin and nicotrol inhalers and I'm happy with the end result.  I'm a ex-smoker--that's all I care about.

Don't worry  about what others might be doing or not. You're a unique individual so just enjoy your success!!!!!

I made a decision to quit after that everything else was a useful tool to help me quit. Without a decision to quit I could not have succeeded.

Congratulations on all your hard won victories of quitting. Way to go!

Just as everyone is unique, so is every quit experience.  Success is created by finding the right way for YOU!  Glad you found yours!

I quit with Chantix, the information in the Allen Carr book and this site.  I was fortunate to find my way on my first attempt!

@Patrick1234 @Hello, I quit cold turkey both times. I didn’t want to have to buy any other products. I quit 1st 6 years, relapsed for past year. And quit 11 days ago. Much different this time. First quit I was a smoker for 15 years. Thank you for sharing

@Patrick1234 I quit by reading everything on Ex. I found the site by accident. I used NRT gum for 3 weeks while reading the Best of Ex, and Allen Carr's book. The book lead me to believe that I could quit the gum so after about 3 weeks I quit the NRT gum and started chewing Big Red chewing gum. I came here every day, took the Daily Pledge, and posted. My fellow Exer's have become my extended family. I'm so glad you quit and are nicotine free. Keep your guard up and keep up the good work.🌞🚭

@Patrick1234 , I started by cutting back. I got to three smokes a day, and knew I wouldn’t get any further without help. I found this site and all the great information; I tried a hypnosis session (probably a bust, but who knows), and I went through the patch system (just the last two stages because I’d already cut down so far). The patches worked for me, because it was a steady release, rather than gum or lozenges. I still very infrequently use some gum.

The patches were a godsend for me, as far as taking the physical edge off that first month or so. But I did have problems with the patches leaving red spots. Annoying, but what the heck.

That’s my story; as others who’ve commented above have said, everyone is different.

I decided to quit the day I woke up in the hospital my hands tied to the bed on a ventilator with Joyce and my sons looking down at me with smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes

I guess you can say I quit "Scared Turkey"

I was quit over 90 days before I knew of sites like this. I carried my hospital wrist band for strength and have never forgot the image of my family looking down at me.

Thanks for the discussion!!! In reading others posts here and how they quit reminds me of the Big Book of AA which tells many personal quit stories. The main point of the stories was to say what life was like while addicted, what happened to send them on their path to sobriety, and what life was like now after sobering up.

I would sooooo love it if we could have our own kind of Big Book--personal stories.

Thanks again for creating this conversation.

I tried everything to quit except Chantix, what finally worked for me was wellbutrin, cold turkey from nicotine, and blogging my feelings here on EX instead of stuffing them down with a cig. Coming on 5 years nicotine-free and I will always be indebted to EX and the free "talk therapy" I received here along with all the kindness and support.
