Hello everyone, my name is Jim and I live in central Missouri. I've smoked since I was 15 and I'm 67 now. I quit smoking 3 months ago cold turkey and have no desire to pick up a cigarette and am using no meds to quit. Guess I was ready to do. What seems odd is that I'm sleeping a lot more and seem to dream all night long--something I never remember doing before. I've been curious about these things. At any rate, good luck to everyone--Lord knows we need it.

WELCOME, Jim!

Congratulations on Your 3 Month Quit!!! Very well done!

Many things change when we quit smoking and one of the biggest changes happens in our Brains! It's no wonder you've discovered new sleep patterns! Soon they will normalize - by that I don't mean regress to what they are before. I mean finding a New Normal! Becoming an EX makes just about everything change - For the BETTER! So keep at it and let this New Normal become familiar! You're on the right track!

Welcome Jim, Yes, you have made it to the right place.

Congratulations on your 3 month quit! There have been some that did alot of sleeping in the beginning of there quit and some have dreams about smoking so you are not alone in that.

One thing that is not needed to quit smoking is luck, quit smoking is a choice we made and you made an excellent choice.

Others will be along to give you helpful links to guide you on this lovely journey.

Welcome to our community!

Wow - you have already quit for 3  months?  Good for you!!!

Yep - you are in the right place.  We can give you information to help you make this your FOREVER quit!  For one thing - you are addicted to nicotine, and can never, ever again have even one puff of a cigarette.  Secondly, you are in the period of this quit journey we here call No Mans Land (2-4 months quit).  During this time it is normal to have an intense, brutal crave that seems to linger forever.  There is often no trigger or association that you can link to it.  As long as you are prepared for it, it will have no power over you.....but don't let it surprise you.  Some people think the quit journey is NEVER going to get easier and give it up at this point.  Don't be fooled - NOT true!

I want to tell you about a couple of resources you might find helpful - and might help explain some of the things going on in your body and mind.  The first recommendation is to read Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking."  It contains a wealth of information about this addiction.  I bet you will surprised at what you didn't know!  Here is a link to a free PDF of it:

Here is a link to a blog that includes early withdrawal symptoms that you also might find helpful:

I'm glad you found us.  Let us know if you have questions or need support!

Glad you found your quit and have come here for ongoing support. It sounds like you may also be able to help others in their quit as well.

While it would have been great to have this community around 25 years ago that would have been somewhat amazing in it's time. In the next few weeks we'll reach the 8th birthday of this community. That will be awesome but small in comparison to the milestones that many of you have already accomplished.

Attaboy Jim! Three months is a great start to the rest of your smoke free life.

Like you I felt it was just time. Cold turkey, no meds, I don't think I could've done it any other way. Being here will help a lot in learning about this addiction & what your body & mind are going through. Comittment & education are the keys to your success.

See ya around & keep on keepin on,

Thanks Jim for coming here and sharing.  That is the biggest part that we as men have to do, share. When we share stuff like this it gives others courage to be like you. Even if we don't say it out loud. Just knowing that you did this fill you up with pride.  I am happy with you that you made the choice and have stuck to it. Take care Jim , and happy holidays.

If theres anything that I can do for you, let me know pleae.  Love, Jim
