I started smoking back in the day when it was COOL, the 60's.  I was always a "good" girl, but this was a little naughty thing I could do and after all, it was accepted.  We saw pictures of how beautiful people and places were all found when you could smoke Virginia Slims or Eve cigarettes.  Wow, what a foolish girl I was.

Fast forward to today, struggling for many times to quit and it would work for a few days, months but never a forever freedom.  I am seeking now more than anything FREEDOM, I want to become a free woman and break one of the hardest habits I know of.  I have set a new Quit date.  I am reading all the material on this website and I will start my path to FREEDOM in 20 days.

I will use the nicotene patches this time.  Chantix really gave me nightmares, so I stopped.  I stopped and still kept smoking.....that is the real nightmare.  So, this is a little of my story.  I am thankful for this website.  I will soon be free.

Thanks to all

Thanks for sharing your story with us.  You will discover through reading on this site that this is a lot more than a habit.  It's an addiction. Truly.  And as such, we will try to help you re-train your addictive thinking brain.  Once you "get it," you will find the process not as onerous as you might think.  Knowledge is power against this beast.  He weakens when you turn your focus away from him.  Part of the re-training process is to learn that YOU have control over your thoughts.  YOU choose how your quit journey will proceed.  Positive reinforcement goes a long way and support is a very important ingredient.  So stick close.  You'll meet a lot of great people along the way who are sharing your journey step by step.  It's one of the most empowering experiences you will ever have.  Cheering you on.....

your story sounds alot like mine.......I never used Chantex or the patch .....I used the gum....I'm at 6 months smoke free now. I think that other than the readings, logging onto this site has been the most helpful for me, personally.....I check out this site every day.....it really helps keep me inspired and on track.....for me, adopting the mantra N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever)  works the best. I know I'll never smoke another cigarette again.......ever. I'm not young anymore and I want to be as kind to my body as I can, ...heaven knows I abused it far too long with that nasty addiction. I hope you achieve your goal.......keep blogging here and let us know how it goes.

Choose whatever medication you want. I did -but I think I would not have been able to stay stopped without this resource. I need it every day.

Welcome Bee, someone will provide the link to Allen Carr's free download. I,personally, hate the book, BUTT it continues to be my go to read when feeling vulnerable. I have probably picked it up 1000 times!

Welcome to our site Bees.  I too started smoking in the 60s when it was the cool thing to do.  After all, the beautiful and sexy people all smoked and made it so glamorous. Remember when we could smoke everywhere, in the grocery stores and the clothing stores and the movie theaters???  Wow.  That brings back the memories.  I am now quit 104 days after smoking for 45+ years.  This is doable.  Stay with us and read everything suggested and you will learn everything you need to know about this horrible addiction and how to quit forever.

Welcome!'

Most successful folks here credit the knowledge received from Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking."  Here is a link:

You will probably be amazed at how much you don't know about this addiction.  After you do the reading, you will be ready to make your plan, which will include  the crave busters you will use in the early days of your quit.  You can check out my page to see lists of about 114 things to do instead of smoke a cigarette!  You will be relearning life as a non-smoker.....you will be surprised how much time you will gain (and how much money you will save!)

You can do this and we can help.  Let us know when you need advice and support.

Welcome to the site! You are in the right place for sure! I smoked for 40 years (started back in the late 60's.) I came here - did the reading (Carr book, link above, and the free course at: http://quitsmokingonline.com/and I hung out here. Then I quit - that was 1000 days ago today! (Yes - ONE THOUSAND days - soon to be three years!)

There are many of us here - folks, like you, who smoked for many, many years and we did it! The secret - the support here. I swear by it and I stick around to pass on the joy of that freedom you mentioned!! Best thing I have ever done. We can not go back and slap those foolish girls were were - but, we can begin a new life now!!! You can do this - STAY here! Read!! It is NEVER too late!!

Thank you all for the encouragement and I am looking forward to that freedom day. I will pull up the Alan Carr book and read all I can.  I am so thankful for you all.  As it says in the Bible "stay and be around people who support and are of like minds"....that's my way of reading it.  Again, family, thank you all so very much.
