Today is day 16 of my quit. I called the pharmacy to refill my Wellbutrin since I am down to my last pill. This medication has been working great but guess what? I am now having an alergic reachon. I cannot stop itching. I called the pharmacist and learned that about 4% of people who take it will have this reaction. I am waiting for a call from my doctor. I am now checking to see If I have any Benadryl. If not I will be running to the drug store.

take your Benedryl and use some cortisone cream, that is awful, it seems to me if it was the Welbutrin you would have reacted before now. Sure you haven't used a new detergent or soap or got into some poison ivy?

So Sorry Carenda! That is NO fun at all!!! It does look like you would have had a reaction before now, since I assume you've been taking the Wellbutrin for awhile?? (You said you were needing a refill). Usually a reaction will happen within hours or days,...but not weeks after starting a new med. Anything is possible I guess... but like Cindy said...you might want to do an inventory of other things you've been exposed to, just to be sure this allergy isn't coming from another source. If you can't take Wellbutrin, I'll bet there is something else similar. Wellbutrin is an anti-depressant that just happens to help people handle their withdrawal symptoms better. There may be other anti-depressants with similar properties that can help you just as well. Of course, your doc can answer that. Sure hope you feel better soon!!!!

There is a pill that I have to take for my migraines that causes me to be itchy too. I have to take 3 bendryl at bedtime every single night or I will wake up itchy too. I guess some drugs just do that. I can really feel your pain. Hope you feel better soon.

This is the wildest thing that I have been through to have a reaction after so many weeks. I have not used anything different for this to happen. Now, I'm torn as to if I should put the patch back on.

Be strong Carenda. If you really need the patch, use it. But see how you do without it. You'll have to let it go eventually, you know. But do what is best for you. OK. I also take Wellbutrin, but I take it for panic attack. Hope you are better real soon.

Makela, I may just leave the patch off tomorrow morning. The patches I have are for the step 1 when smoking 10 or more cigs a day. Now, that I am not smoking I am a little uncertain. I will think this out carefully.

Carenda... 10+ years ago, when i quit smoking the first time, I was using Zyban (welbutrin) and the very first day i took it, 20 minutes later, I broke into HIVES!!!! I was like Noooooooo! I called my doctor and asked if i could continue taking the meds if i took benedryl with it. He said yes... as long as the benedryl control your symptoms and they do not get worse. I was able to stay on the Zyban for a couple of months taking benedryl with each dose, until i started braking out in lots of little white heads on my thighs! I stopped taking it, i was too vain to deal with pimples! LOL

BTW... I would only use the patches ... at this point.... if you absolutely cant do it without them. In MY opinion, and granted... it is only an opinion... I think it would be a setback! I would think that your physical adiction to nicotine is (almost) over!

Nope, it's not vain to not want pimples....LOL. Today, I took the Zyrtec this morning because I started itching again. What frightened me was when the doctor said if I started having shortness or breath or wheezing to go to the emergency room immediately. So I guess in a round about way, this quit may end up being cold turkey. I can't decide if I should use the patch since the ones I have are step 1. I am at day 16 which means a lot if the nicoine should be gone. Oh, check this out.....The doctor said I had to call him before the end of the week with a progress report since coming off the Wellbutrin but thanks for sharing your experiace with me.

I am thinking too that the patches at this point may be a setback.
