Help!!!! Almost bought a pack

I was so close. I guess I just had a bad day. There are health issues, my doctor has my thyroid soooo screwed up, my son upset me and I've just been down. Thought I could buy a pack just to have my security blanket. Drove into the mini-mark, got out, walked up to the door and stopped. The only thing that kept me on the outside was having to start all over. I knew deep in heart that that one pack would lead to another and I would be back to where I started. Don't want to go through that again so I turned around and drove home. You may say good for you but I still want it but I am glad to have walked away. That was major!!!

Wow!!! That's amazing...I won't say 'good for you', but I do think that's awesome that you didn't smoke. Thank you for sharing that experience with us. Don't forget that you are brave and inspiring!!!

You just learned the most valuable lesson of a continued quit, all you have to do is Never Take Another Puff. NTAP.
want, think, crave, it's all just junkie thinking, just continue to NTAP and you win and will be free forever.
Best To You, RJ...Free at Last 486 days, one day at a time after 32+yrs of feeding the addiction.

GIRL, you need to stay away from the mini mart!!!!!!! PROTECT YOUR QUIT Tracey!!!! I'm tickled pink you left and didn't buy the pack!!!!! Thats great! But, please, please, please take care and be cautious. The craves can be real bastards sometimes and sneaky too, but you have to stay one step ahead of them at ALL times. I'm here for ya Sweetie. Hang in there and just know that I am really proud that you didn't buy the cigarettes! That shows real commitment to the quit.
Stay strong.

Wow, Tracey - good job. Smoking really wouldn't have helped. The next time that you have a bad day, you'll be stronger.

Yes, you had a bad day, heath issues, an upset son and let's be real, our body is still healing and trying to get back on track after years of abuse. Chemicals in the brain are trying to balance again, organs and tissues are being restored to better functioning without being poisoned. Not a fun day BUT one more day toward total freedom and realizing that there is no sane reason to want one ever again.

The good thing is, at the end of the day, you learned something pretty valuable. Life happens whether we smoke or not. A pack of cancer sticks is NOT a security blanket, its a coffin. Smoking now takes you back to a life of being a slave to that coffin. No freedom, locked in, and back to wanting to crawl out of it. No thanks!

PROUD OF YOU! This is a process. You are relearning how to live without being a drug addict and running to substance abuse to fix a problem that a substance can never fix. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! KEEP IT GOING BECAUSE YOU CAN! The voice inside our head, the thoughts to smoke, believe me, they disappear, but you've got to stick to it and realize that you are now having tremendous moments free of addiction with some annoying thoughts that are temporary and shortlived in the bigger picture. Thanks for sharing this!!!!!!

Tracey, GOOD FOR YOU!!! Those mini-marts stinks cause there's all those smokes right behind the register. But buying them wouldn't have solved anything so I'm glad you had the will-power to turn away. That truly says a lot. Stick around here as much as possible, there are a lot of awesome people here willing to help.

I noticed in your profile that you are quitting cold turkey because you can't afford nicotine replacement therapy. I know many states offer NRT for free these days. Just Google "quit + state" and check out several of the first few links. Might be worth checking into.

Tracey, I am so new into my quit that all I can say is you must have tremendous will power and think you did a great job by walking away. I am not sure I could have done that if I got as close as to the door with the intentions of buying smokes. It shows your commitment and desire to be smoke free. You should be very proud of yourself.....very proud of yourself.

I want to thank all of you for your kindness and understanding. I thought by putting it out there someone could help hold me up and you all came through. I truly think this funk I'm going through is coming from the mess with my thyroid. I just feel like digging a hole and hiding for a while. Those who know me know that's not my style. As much as I want that smoke I don't want to start over again more. Love you guys!!!

Having the craving and urges is normal. We're not light switches. It takes awhile to get over the rough part and you're doing the right thing writing about it because look at all the great feedback you got! The important thing is you didn't buy the pack. You thought it through. That's a really good tool to use. You will get to the point where you can have a bad day and not even think about smoking. The fact that you didn't cave in just got you closer to that!
