Welcome Kay!

Glad you could join us.

There's some good information on how to quit at the very top og the page if you want sort of a regimented plan and steps to take to get you restarted.

My page is sort of an eplanation of what I've seen people go theough in my time on these sites and covers the stages of a quit in a timeline form. You can click on Hoggie the cat to take you there.

Have a great day!

Welcome to our community!

Tell us a bit about yourself!  How long have you smoked?  What are your reasons for quitting?  Have you set a quit date?  What do you hope to gain?  The more we know, the better above we will be to help you.

The most important thing you can do right now is to educate yourself on what nicotine does to your body and mind. To that end, I highly recommend Allen Carr's “The Easy Way to Stop Smoking.” This is an easy and entertaining read. Here is a link to a free PDF version of it:

As well, read the sections on this site, and read the blogs, responses and pages of folks you think might be helpful. You might visit whyquit.com and quitsmokingonline.com for the good information contained there. You should also do the tracking and separation exercises suggested on this site

After you have completed the recommended reading, it will be time to make an informed choice of the quit aid, if any, you will use. If you go that route, I personally recommend the aids that don't let the addict control the dose such as the available prescription drugs or the patch. But – any method that you think will work well for you will be best for you.

Stay close to us here and ask questions when you have them and for support when you need it. We will be with you every step of the way!

I started smoking when I was 12 ( yep, a child.)  I have been quit for 45 days and for the most part feel good.   Cold turkey is my method of choice.  So far I feel ok but I will be staying close and doing a lot of reading here. thanks for your replys

Welcome to EX, Kay!

Every single one of us came to EX just have you have; addicted to nicotine and very anxious about quitting.  So you can say anything, ask anything, blog anything.  We get it!

You may have "tried" to quit before, but this is the place to come and learn how to stop "trying", "attempting" and "hoping" that you can quit.  This is an amazing supportive place where you will learn how to find your "Forever Quit" by learning from the people who have already achieved and are in the process of achieving, EXACTLY what you want to achieve!

You will meet people in all stages of their Quit.  You can learn something, or gain some strength, from all of us here. So start by doing the recommended reading (Youngatheart has supplied the links/info).  The way you think about quitting is vital to your success.  Also, start doing the tracking exercises that are found on the homepage of EX.

The quitters who take the time to prepare themselves mentally and make a real plan before they actually quit are the ones who usually have the easiest time.  There is no one "correct" way to do this; everyone must do what feels right to them.  But there is a plethora of good advice, helpful information and caring human support here.

Get involved; we LOVE new folks!  Make friends and start making your plan.

xxxooo,   Sky

Hi, Kay -- we're so glad you found this site.  I see that you've been given the link to Allen Carr's book, and I really hope you read it.  He tells you to keep smoking while you're reading it, and I can say it totally changed my life.  I smoked for 53 years and had many failed quits.  But this one is going to be the last one because I have totally changed my thoughts about what smoking is and what it isn't.  I am not deprived because I don't smoke any more.  I don't envy smokers.

This site will provide the support you need and lots and lots of good information.  Please do come back often and make a plan for your quit.
