Tonight marks my 7th month anniversary. I try to write a blog on each month's anniversary - so here goes.
Seven months - I can tell you that seven months ago, I could not imagine this! You see I smoked for 40 years. I've said it before and I'll say it again - if not for this site and coming here and realizing that others had quit after so many years - it would not have happened for me. The beautiful people here helped me get to this place! I say it on almost every comment I make to new quitters or planners - read, read, read! Read blogs here, read the free on-line course at: http://quitsmokingonline.com. Read Allen Carr's book (free download at: http://digg.com/news/lifestyle/Allen_Carr_s_Easy_Way_To_Stop_Smoking_Download_free_PDF
When I first came here - I wouldn't even sign up for an account! Way too much of a commitment in doing that! SO, I lurked - just hanging out, reading blogs..... Finally after enough reading - things clicked! I did it! And - I feel great!
There has been a song playing around in my head for a long time - when I think of other lurkers hanging out here. The song is an old one - from the Broadway show/movie - "The King and I". It is called "Hello Young Lovers". I have taken the liberty to change it to - "Hello Young Smokers". Here goes: (At least you can't hear me singing!! Be very happy about that!) (The "young" here can apply to "young" at heart!!)
Hello young smokers, whoever you are,
I hope your cigarettes are few
All my good wishes go with you tonight,
I've been a smoker like you.
Be brave, young smokers, and follow your plan,
Be brave and faithful and true,
Cling very close to this web site tonight.
I've been a smoker like you.
I know how it feels to be so afraid
And to smoke one after one in a trance.
You come to this site on the chance that you'll quit,
And you quit - not really by chance!
Don't cry young smokers, whatever you do
Don't cry because - you CAN quit,
All of my thoughts are good ones tonight,
I've been a smoker like you
I've had a plan of my own like yours,
I've had a plan of my own.
