Hello Young Smokers and Seven Months

Tonight marks my 7th month anniversary. I try to write a blog on each month's anniversary - so here goes.

Seven months - I can tell you that seven months ago, I could not imagine this! You see I smoked for 40 years. I've said it before and I'll say it again - if not for this site and coming here and realizing that others had quit after so many years - it would not have happened for me. The beautiful people here helped me get to this place! I say it on almost every comment I make to new quitters or planners - read, read, read! Read blogs here, read the free on-line course at: http://quitsmokingonline.com. Read Allen Carr's book (free download at: http://digg.com/news/lifestyle/Allen_Carr_s_Easy_Way_To_Stop_Smoking_Download_free_PDF

When I first came here - I wouldn't even sign up for an account! Way too much of a commitment in doing that! SO, I lurked - just hanging out, reading blogs..... Finally after enough reading - things clicked! I did it! And - I feel great!

There has been a song playing around in my head for a long time - when I think of other lurkers hanging out here. The song is an old one - from the Broadway show/movie - "The King and I". It is called "Hello Young Lovers". I have taken the liberty to change it to - "Hello Young Smokers". Here goes: (At least you can't hear me singing!! Be very happy about that!) (The "young" here can apply to "young" at heart!!)

Hello young smokers, whoever you are,

I hope your cigarettes are few

All my good wishes go with you tonight,

I've been a smoker like you.

Be brave, young smokers, and follow your plan,

Be brave and faithful and true,

Cling very close to this web site tonight.

I've been a smoker like you.

I know how it feels to be so afraid

And to smoke one after one in a trance.

You come to this site on the chance that you'll quit,

And you quit - not really by chance!

Don't cry young smokers, whatever you do

Don't cry because - you CAN quit,

All of my thoughts are good ones tonight,

I've been a smoker like you

I've had a plan of my own like yours,

I've had a plan of my own.

I LOVE the King and I (as I am sure you know---Yul Brenner/Deborah Kerr)----Yul Brenner died of lung cancer and made one of the FIRST shock/honest do not smoke commercials---still one of the best I've ever seen.

YOU may not have know you were going to make it 7 months ago----but I did!!!! you had such a positive attitude---I just knew you would make it. CONGRATULATIONS on seven months.

I loved Yul Brenner. But am loving you more! Seven is terrific, girlfriend, and thank you so much for paving the way for us old timers who've smoked too much, too long.

Discover I will need all your help you can spare for me! Today was tough after yesterday being good. . . ?

I'm mystified. I sorta feel like a beach ball being tossed around by the waves and landing wherever.

Kathy, you are truly generous of spirit and an inspiration to so many of us. Thanks for being here in my "quit" family!

Congratulations Kathy!  7 months is well on your way to that magical 1 Year!  Your blog describes what can happen when you bring your body and read, read, read....the only effort required.  When you trust the process, it works and lo and behold...you're quit!  Thanks for a beautiful blog!
