Happiness Is Still an Option

~~Never get so comfortable in pain that you forget happiness is still an option.~~  Unknown

I've had some struggles this week.  Misunderstandings, errors at work, worries.  More than usual, actually.  But thankfully, those negative feelings about my journey this week didn't grow and fester and get mountain big.  Because I know when I get that way, it's time to do things differently.  I used to fume and smoke and gripe and smoke.  Now I treat myself to a butterscotch or I play with my grandkids or I do my yoga or I allow myself to wallow for a good hour before letting it go.

Smoking and quitting can be like that sometimes, too.  When we 'try' to quit, we often focus on what we are losing until it gets bigger and bigger and bigger until we want to scream or cuss or....smoke.  Sure, those cravings are going to come.  Sure it feels like a huge part of who we were is missing.  And sure, we miss that feeling of nicotine hitting our brains.

But there are options.  You have choices.  You don't 'have to' stay focused on what you're missing.  You can get excited about all you're gaining.  You can look forward to all those positives.  More money in your pocket, more time spent with family, more control in your life.  Rather than "I miss smoking", you can think "I'm saving my life".  Rather than being carried away by the chaos or the negativity in your day, you can also be carried away by the blessings and the joy and the fun.

Never get so comfortable in relapse that you forget recovery is an option.

Just a thought 😊
