Sorry I haven't been around much, on March 23rd I drove my snowmobile into a tree. I fractured my skull, broke my neck and have a compound fracture in my left leg. I am very lucky t

o be alive and had I not quit smoking I would more than likely be dead. In two weeks they are performing a bone graft on my left leg that cannot be performed on smokers. I had 3 weeks when the accident happened and I wonder if the increased blood flow allowed me to survive.  I was at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital until April 2 and then transferred to Whittier rehab hospital here in haverhill Ma.  Until released April 21. I have a long road of recovery ahead but non of it includes smoking. Thanks all for the help.

I'm so sorry for what you've been through and are still going through and will be going through for quite some time but it sounds like with time that you're going to be ok and thankfully you quit smoking which is helping you to heal and being able to have the graft because you quit, whew I'm sending good thoughts and prayers up for you for strength and healing. Fergiebarber

Thanks all, still smoke free and still recovering. I know without this website my chances of staying smoke free were not good. My physical health is better, 2 more months of no weight bearing on left leg but if I smoked I wouldn't have a left leg. Some day I will walk again! God bless all and don't smoke 1 day at a time.

Your positive attitude will go a long ways in your recovery.  I have been on non-weight bearing on my left leg for only 4 weeks with 4 more to go - and hearing of your ordeal has made mine seem like no big deal!

You are a my hero for how you are handing this adversity!

Fergiebarber‌ So glad that you are still smoke free, what an ordeal you have been through and probably continue to go through.  You are showing everyone that it can be done, no matter what and that not only would smoking not help, it would delay your healing and alter your treatment.

Wow, thanks for posting and please know that we are all thinking of you and sending our best.
